What to do...

If you had an unmolested 90 LB9 IROC vert with 40k on it would you swap in a 350 if you had one ready to go?

Re: What to do...

I was going to originally say dont do it but if you kept the LB9 for future install back into the 90 vert then why not.

Why do you think the factory didn't put 350s in most stock verts?

Re: What to do...

I was just concerned about decreasing the value of the car in the long run because the engine wouldn't be original.

Re: What to do...

If the car is virtually flawless, I'd leave it stock. There are so many thirdgens out there that have nothing to lose, there's no reason to tear into an original car for a project.

Because of the weight and emissions regulations. That's why the TTops and the 350 weren't available as a combo after 1989 also.

Well, the guy backed out on me after he had agreed to sell me the car! I had already booked hotel rooms and everything.

Re: What to do...

What part was the myth? You couldn't get the 350 based cars with TTops starting in 1990 because of the added weight of airbags, etc. Once the car hit a certain weight, gas guzzler taxes and other gov't garbage came into effect. A salesman would have told you that it was because of body twist, etc. They heard a rumor and everyone ran with it. Added weight increases emissions, decreases fuel mileage and who knows what else. The Formula was available with both after 1990 only because it didn't have the added weight of the ground effects. Kind of makes sense.

Damn, my memory isn't what it used to be; used to be a walking encyclopedia on third gens, but life got in the way for the most part. That blows, I'd love a '90 350 with ttops.

Good luck... they do not exist, NON, ZERO, NADA. 1990 was the only year that definitively that did not produce a single one like that, Firebird or Camaro.

The cars that were available in the UNITE STATES with CC1 & L98
1987 & 1989 IROC
1988 Limited, not sure if I have seen verified Camaro L98/CC1

1989 T/A, GTA & Formula,
1991 - 1992 Formula

It should be noted that there were several 1987 GTA's with the L98/CC1 shipped to Canada. I cannot get the exact number at this point... Interestingly as far as I ahve ever seen, there were NO Formula 350's in 1987 or 1988 with the CC1 & T-tops, not even to Canada.

Consider 1988 IROCs verified I have one sitting in my garage! If you check my other thread with all my car pics, I don't have a pic of the RPO sheet up but I do have many pics that show a clean t-top IROC with a 5.7 TPI logo on the back bumper...

And yes, it definitely has a 350 Not just verified by the RPO sheet, but also by

Just got home with the TA earlier...hadn't driven it since I drove the IROC to a cruise night Wed night. Those 45 ci extra really do make a difference!

Re: What to do...

This one also seems to verify 88s, granted I haven't seen the RPO or crawled under the car but given the low miles and condition, it seems legit.

Re: What to do...

Hate to jack my own thread...LOL but just thought I'd throw in that I'm still looking for a 90-92 IROC/Z28 vert. I don't have the time for a ground up resto but I'm not looking for a car I can't drive because I don't want to decrease its value.

87-90 Camaros were readily available with the L98 and TTops.

So which is it for the 90 models? With or without Ts on a 350 car?

Scott,
your slacking... I think you need to find the backup of your crashed laptop...

umm... well.. how do I say this... Buuuut...

Find a 1990 L98 Camaro or Firebird with CC1, and I will show you a car that someone has converted, or I will eat my shirt... Its not a Factory job...

ZERO 1990 IROC's were made with the CC1 AND L98
