How typical is my 84 TA?

I have a white and gold 84 TA 5.0 H.O. a/t. It has leather seats, a rear wiper and washer, 4 wheel disc brakes, power antenna and subwoofers, t-tops, and it was a california car so I'm not sure if it has extra emissions equipment or not. It also has a locking gas cap lid. I think it has just about every option outside of being a special edition of some sort. Are these options sort of rare? I have never seen another one like it around where I live.

Re: How typical is my 84 TA?

I wouldn't describe it as "rare"; but it does have just about everything it could come with, including some of the things people don't really like (rear wiper), but it only has the auto and therefore 3.42 gears most likely instead of the 3.73 the 5-speeds got. Rear discs were uncommon before 85, they didn't make near as many of em as people wanted, alot of cars got drums so yours is a step above that. Sounds like a real nice car though. If it's in good shape especially.

Does it have Lear Siegler seats (with the adjustable knee bolster) ? Those are quite rare, and next to impossible to find in leather.

Wasn't it for sale at Golden Classic a few months ago ? There was an absolutely mint one similar to your description there :

I would say your car is somewhat rare from what you have described

Re: How typical is my 84 TA?

Rare enough for me...I think I've only seen one third gen that I can remember that had a rear wiper. Didn't even think leather was available in a non-Recaro or Anniversary '84, and I've only seen a few that had the subwoofer option with the gain control.

So yeah, if I saw that car, I'd think it was super rare...but then again, I don't know 82-84s like I do 85-02s or even 77-81s. To the casual observer or even casual F-Body enthusiast, I think you can get away with saying it's rare just based on the combination of options.

That looks pretty much exactly like mine. It does have the adjustable knee bolsters. Is there any way to find out how many were produced just like mine? Also, what code differentiates between the 3.42 and 3.73 gears?

Re: How typical is my 84 TA?

I just found the code for the axle ratio, mine is GT4 for the 3.73. My seats look exactly like the pics above. Where can I find all possible codes to match my codes with?

Re: How typical is my 84 TA?

Well, then you do have a pretty rare 84. I've only seen two cars equipied with leather Lear Siegler seats, and around ten with cloth L/S seats, that when looking at eBay ads and forums on a regular basis.

There is a decoder you can download on the somewhere on the main menu of the website. The problem is that it's oriented towards later cars mostly, so some codes have a different meaning on 82-84s.

Unfortunately, there's no known production figures that separate each option. I'd advise you to visit the forum of www.earlythirdgen.com , there is a lot of great info there. You can find a great pdf decoding each year of 82-84 cars. Most of the RPOs are listed.

Are those seats in the above picture Lear Siegler? My seats do not say it anywhere on them or have any emblem, they are identical to the ones pictured.

Re: How typical is my 84 TA?

Yes, they are L/S seats but there are no emblems on it. Only Recaros and PMDs had their emblem. Leather L/S seats were the second most expensive option available, it was $1304 on T/As. The only thing that was more expensive was the Y84 Recaro edition package, at $1621

Re: How typical is my 84 TA?

I finally found a code list. I found the code for the Lear seats. Basically the only thing my car does not have is the engine block heater, limited slip, and it is a WY6 package. I wish I could get a close production number. Is there anyway to find out how many had the leather Lear seats in tan?
