Auto close rear hatch
Hey, I'm looking for any info on an auto close rear hatch. I've only heard of it on the barrett-jackson auction in Las Vegas today. Here is the link http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=383&pop=1

That is not what I mean, The auctioneer stated that this is a very rare option and this is the first third gen that he has seen with it, and he said that you pushed a button to close the hatch.

I don't know what to make of it Barrett-Jackson auctions do tons of research before allowing cars to be sold. Here is the description from the auction "Details: 240hp 350cid TPI V8 and 700R4 automatic transmission. The 145 MPH speedometer and 5,500rpm redline tachometer was used on the 350 5.7L Tuned Port Injection engine (L98) equipped IROC Z. This car has power windows, power door locks, power seats, power mirrors, cruise control, auto close rear hatch, rear window defroster, air conditioning. 16" aluminum wheels with new BFGoodrich G Sport tires. Tinted windows. This car was bought new in Southern California where it has spent its entire life. Factory correct repaint, new stripes and all new weather striping completed in 2009."
I'm sure most people here haven't see this but doesn't mean it didn't exist. We may never be able to prove it either way.

Any time anything like this comes up, the burden of proof falls on the person claiming it exists. If you, Barrett-Jackson, or anyone else can prove that any of these cars ever came with a push button to close the hatch, they can go ahead and do so. It's not the forum's responsibility to prove that it didn't exist.
Barrett-Jackson is far from an authority on these cars. I know a little bit about thirdgens, and I've never seen a single car with any kind of push button to close the hatch. I've never seen any mention of it in any of the books, and materials I've read on the subject. And in 15 years on this forum, I've never seen anyone bring it up.

Someone in the auction was confused, that's it. You lightly close the hatch, it then pulls itself fully closed and latched. There was never an option that did more than that... unless the hatch shocks give out and the hatch simply falls closed. That would be the "worn out" option.

Could even be a custom mod that they thought was an optional feature. But so far we comfirmed my suspisions that they are wrong in what they said and thats pretty much why I brought it up. Would have been cool to have imo.
