Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
Just curious - I picked up a set of 91-92 GTA Tails and am curious what they are going for these days.
They are in good shape, no cracks and no lamination issues.
Thanks

at $200 with the harness you better buy them all up immediately. Going rate is $300 plus per set.

Do I need the harness? Will it work with a std harness?

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
I have gotten 3 sets lately that are in exceptional shape. I have paid $150 - $200 for all of them.
Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
I sold a rough set awhile back for $200 +shipping. A nice set can bring over $300, just don't expect a fast sale. A minty set should be good for $500 if you wait a year or two for the right buyer.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
Uhh...were they for a real car or a scale model? I've seen people ask upwards of $500 for ONE pair of nice 1991-92 T/A taillights. On the other hand, you can't hardly give away a pair for an 1985-90. I had a nice set that a sold a few years ago for $25, and that was after weeks of ads in the classifieds section here.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
Supply and demand... Two people had to bid them that high. On that day they were worth that price. Hell, they have been selling for $300 and up for over a decade... It's not like there are more of them out there now. If anything the supply is going down, not up. Therefore the price will continue to go up.
Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
I think that comment was unnecessary.
The keywords here are Alex had a "mint" set and they sold. It means someone was interested in paying for the item at that price. I've seen plenty go for around that price that were labeled as "mint".
These taillights are 2-year only taillights and are quite hard to find in "mint" condition without the delaminating issue. On top of the 2-year only deal, they were only on the GTA or Trans AM which further limits the amount of these taillights out there.

For real... Mint or even very nice parts, and hard to find parts, command higher prices. If you want to play, you gotta pay. If you can't afford it, you do without.
I'd be willing to bet the buyer was stoked to find a mint set at any price.

ya that comment was definitely uncalled for. Hell I had to replace my drivers side light and I had to bite the bullet and cough up $240 for it. Its a price you have to pay for having a sexy car

...delaminating on the right side....
...I paid 305.00 Euro (about 425.00 US-$) for a brand-new rh NOS part...and this was only the "outside cover", not the complete lamp....
...must be one of the last parts...a left over or "remnant"...
...and the only my dealer could get...
...it was a must...and I don't regret...

I would've liked to have met you as well. I am going to try and go again next year and bring my car, this year I just rode up with some friends.
I got a few pics of your car, just haven't had time to finish processing and uploading the rest of the images from that weekend.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
Whenever I see posts like this, I laugh that some company won't get permission or whatever they need from GM to reproduce some of these items that everyone would buy. Things like tail lights, center consoles, headlight bezels, shifter handles blah blah blah. Look at a company like late model restoration that has every part you can possibly think of for the fox body mustangs. You think a company like year one or classic would see the potential in this and just do it.
Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
If some company DID go out of there way to setup an operation for thirdgen parts like LMR has for Mustangs, it'd promptly go broke. Sadly thirdgen enthusiasts as a whole are cheap. As lame as Mustangs are, the owners aren't nearly as inept. I've sold thirdgen parts here, on Ebay, and Craigslist for the last 15 years. In the last few years I've bought and sold a bunch of Mustang parts on various forums, Ebay, and Craigslist. In general, when I list a Mustang part, I usually get results. When I list a thirdgen part, I get a ton of idiots wasting my time and offering pennies on the dollar. Selling thirdgen parts is more of a headache then it's worth.
Something like these tail lights is in demand because there's no supply. The second they become available, the demand will go away and they won't be able to sell them.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
Im sorry if that comment offended anyone on this thread but I honestly think it is rediculous( if I spelled that right) to pay that kind of money for those... but I looked in to buying a pair and I've seen them go for 200 on ebay but maybe these were different I dont know, but yes they look sweet as hell.

I never really understood the big fuss over those lights.
Much more fond on the 82-84 ones myself.
To each his own I guess.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
I have them on my 89 formula 350 as well..
They are by far the best looking tails IMO.
I think the 87-92 base tails are next best looking.
The rest to me look really dated (like they should be on a 79 T/A) or just kinda not quite rite.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
I have a cut up set I use to fix other sets.
Who wants it.
EDIT
put them on ebay for like $60 and no bids. Yet someone from ebay offers to pay $150 for them and actually did.
I am amazed at the logic but whatever.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
I just got a set for my 82. What exactly needs to be changed out to get the brake and turn signals working properly? I guess I would need a 91/92 TA wiring harness.
Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
Except the 91-92 harness won't plug into a 82... You'll still have to modify the harness. It's pretty easy to figure out with wiring diagrams for both.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
IIRC the harness was almost identical to my 87 harness. I had to change the turning signals bulb holders in order to get it in the car was the only thing i had to change. I want to think that I could actually plug in the original holder into the lens, but it was too long and hit the chassis when I installed the assembly into the car.
The 82-84 T/A (& 82-85 Base) is different altogether From what I remember.

I hate to make another thread, but while on the subject of these tail lights...which ones came with PONTIAC lettering? Was it the GTA only? I see some don't have that.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
I dread the day my lights start delaminating or get popped in an accident. I don't want to pony up the coin for replacements. If a company can re-pop these for 250-350 for brand new I think there would still be a market. However, I don't see them getting priced for less than at least $500

Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
All of them had it when they were new, but none of them have it now. Like the center tail panel in 1993-02 Firebirds, they tend to fade out completely to black in just a few years of normal driving. You can get the red lettering decals online for around $12 though to make them look like new again. I have them for mine, and it really makes me wonder why no one else seems to have noticed that their car is missing them.
Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
Actually you are correct. The GTA's had the lettering and the standard Trans Am didn't. And yes most of them have faded off over the years. I just put stickers on mine

No, the TA's had the same tail lights as the GTA's. Mine still had it ten years ago when I bought the car.
Re: Going rate for 91-92 GTA Tail lights?
From the technical data on Thirdgen:
"Trans Am and '91 Firebird GTA get updated 2 piece taillights with "PONTIAC" scripted in orange across the panels."

Have to disagree with that...every 91-92 regular T/A that I've seen has the lettering too, including mine.
