1990 Rocker Emblems--Stick on or Mounting Pegs?
I know the 91-92 cars used stick on rocker emblems, and I was/am under the impression that the 85-90 cars used rocker emblems with mounting pegs on the back.
However, I noticed something peculiar that I didn't think much about the other day--the new NOS rocker emblems I bought are stick on...though they are genuine GM, and they are the correct ones--the 88-90 tri-tone gray style, not to be confused with the 91-92 metallic (non tri-tone) silver. I thought for sure these would have pegs.
Am I mistaken that all cars earlier than '91 had peg-mounted rocker emblems?
Or is this a case of, "No, the emblems were originally peg mounted but sometime after the cars were out of production, but while GM still made replacement parts, a supplier changed and these were what were made later on"?
Not a big deal at all really, was just curious. Always thought 85-90 cars all used pegs.

I'm curious as well...I know my '89 had pegs from the factory. Never did buy replacements for it. BTW, I still stand by what I said in the other thread...keep those wheels

Yeah to me it seems like it would make sense that all 85-90 cars would have pegs, and the 91-92 would be stick on, coming along with the rest of the refresh to the GFX for 91-92. I think it's probably an issue of GMs authorized supplier changing after the fact, and GM authorizing these stick ons as authentic GM parts, suitable for replacement parts. I'm really not sure though, haven't popped off my emblems on the rockers to look.
One other peculiarity, best I can tell from the pics my dad sent me, is that while I think they are shrinkwrapped in the box, they don't appear to have the 'bezel' that the ones on the car currently do; if you look at your rocker emblems, or nose emblem, you'll notice it actually seems to sit within another black plastic bezel...the new ones don't appear to have that bezel--they look a little cleaner.
As for the wheels--ha, I just can't figure it out...lookin' at Bonspeed Huntingtons but they just might be too flashy.

I purchased new from GM for my 85 (though a few years ago). The replacements had pegs.

The 85-90 rocker emblems do have the pegs, I have bought several sets of NOS rocker emblems and they have all had pegs...maybe you are supposed to reuse the peg backing with the new stick on emblem?

Re: 1990 Rocker Emblems--Stick on or Mounting Pegs?
I replaced my pass. side iroc emblem when I bought my car along time ago. It was missing when I bought the car and I ordered a new from a dealership. I could tell the the originals were peg style due to the way the originals were mounted but the new one was a stick-on. I had to knock out some plastic inserts that the peg style pushed in to, to make the stick-on one sit flush and stick to the ground effect. Still on the car after 14 years. On the other hand, I can tell that the driver side emblem sticks out futher since its still the peg style.

Here are some pics of the emblems. The first pic is the driver side and the other 2 are the pass. side. You can tell that the pass.side one sits flush with the ground effect and the driver side one sticks out more since its the peg style.

I know on my 89 the place where the rocker emblem would go, there is a piece in the ground effect that the emblem sticks onto. So weather it's got pins, or it's stick on I can't really tell. I'll post pics for you guys tomorrow.

Perhaps the emblems stick into a bezel/holder that has pegs and clips into the GFX; I'm thinking maybe back in the day when you ordered a new emblem they just gave you both, with the emblem already mounted in the bezel piece with the pegs, and now the bean counters just give you the actual emblem, and you are meant to reuse the bezel...?

[QUOTE=puma1552;4770101]Thanks, it appears that the new one is not sitting in the bezel piece like the old one; should it possibly be?
I looked at my emblems again to see about the holder. The new stick on emblem is an exact fit in the gfx. I looked at the peg style on the driver side and I can tell that the stick on one will not fit in the holder. You can tell this in the pics I posted by looking at the black backround surrounding the iroc-z. I did buy the new emblem back in 96 so if the 91 and 92's are stick on, the supplier that makes them must of made the replacements for the earlier cars too.
