91 GTA or is it?

Well one obvious reason to give me such doubt is that the fender GTA emblem is BELOW the molding and it's also missing the front GTA emblem. I just received my "official GM licensed" replacement and they gave me some thin little sticker that doesn't match the color of my other emblems. Interior is not tan. Then i also have reason to believe it's. Carfax report says its a GTA, speedometer goes up to 140, and SPI label with y84 matches VIN. But how did they misplace the fender emblems?..... Also anyone know where i can get a high quality replacement nose emblem because this sticker just isn't gonna work out.

Y84 = GTA. Since you said the VIN matches, it's a GTA.

Best guess for the emblems being in the wrong place is a repaint.

As far as the emblems:

It's metal, I believe. It is not a sticker for sure.

Actually the 1991-1992 GTA front bumper emblem did change.

http://www.gtasourcepage.com/GTAEmblemPage.html

In addition, all front bumper emblems were changed to a flexible, plastic-like composition for every available color for the 1991-1992 model years.

Right, forgot 91 got a plastic/resin type badge. It is still far from a sticker, though.

wow thanks i was on that page and didn't catch that. yeah the one i received is a plastic sticker thing that is nowhere near the same thickness or material as my other badges but flexible plastic nonetheless, i guess i'll stick with it then, i just came back from dollar tree with a new envelope to ship it back too haha

I've lost count how many real GTA's have emblems out of place. Its gotten to the point that its not a way to tell a fake from a real one.

Re: 91 GTA or is it?

There really is no better confirmation than an SPID with matching VIN. As you indicate you have Y84 on the SPID, you have documentation to support it.

Have you owned this vehicle since new to know about the placement of the badges? These cars were known to have paint issues and a lot of them have received repaints. That's when GTA badge placement is likely to be altered.

One note. CarFax is not able to differentiate between a Trans AM and GTA. Both Trans AM and GTA share the same 1G2FW VIN prefix, and as such, CarFax and the DMV usually report the car as a Trans AM/GTA. You cannot tell, solely by the VIN, if the vehicle is a GTA or a Trans AM without actually checking RPO codes associated with the VIN. CarFax and the DMV do not have that ability.
