What do you think of this find?
I've had my eye out for a nice IROC since '01 when my last camaro was totalled. I've had 3 firebirds since and still have my '90 T/A but always wanted another camaro. I got lucky last weekend when I came across this '88 L98 medium orange IROC. It is UNTOUCHED with no rust. Interior is all there and in great shape, just need the front seats recovered. Has a disc 10 bolt. Clear coat is peeling and there are a few dents but I'll be painting it anyway so no biggie there.
One thing that stands out is that the headlight buckets aren't painted black. I thought all IROC's were supposed to have blacked out buckets. True?
Also, I remember that the Medium Orange Metallic was a fairly scarce color option. Is there any data that states how many Med Orange L98 cars were built?
Here's a quick cell phone pic;

thats a nice find. My 91 has the 10 bolt disc as well but it came from a 92 formula firebird. Its possible that she was repainted and thats why the buckets are painted the same color as the car. you should post up some interior pics and motor pics... plz?

Re: What do you think of this find?
I will post some more pics this weekend.
I *think* it was hit in the front at some point because the pass side fenders paint looks newer than the rest of the car. I just want to know if they're supposed to be black so I can make it correct when I paint it.

As far as the 1988 factory brochure shows, yes, the IROC-Z headlight buckets are black, my 1987 IROC-Z, and Z-28, and my 1989 IROC-Z has them black also!!
Nice find!!
Re: What do you think of this find?
All Z28s and IROC-Zs have the satin black headlight pockets. Ask the owner if they just repainted the front end due to scuffs and scrapes or was it in an accident.

Re: What do you think of this find?
Also the color is not an orange, I believe they called it Flame Red Metallic or Brilliant Red Metallic (Firebirds) #75
The color changed in 1990, from 74 to 75, so they had some changes year to year... Also the metallic Red does not appear to be consistent from car to car... If you compare it to Scott's car above I believe you would find that it is slightly lighter in tint... Scott's would be slightly darker, so it might appear more orangish...
The Orange Metallic was a 1988 last half of the year, it replaced the Yellow

That's a great find. I've been searching for one like that for several months. They pop up every now and then but they're always a 1000 miles away or they want too much money, so I'm still looking.
