If you are happy with it stock go that route, if not, mod it to your liking. I personally will mod any car I ever own to my liking regardless of rarity or value. Overall its all in your preferences.

Personally, I wouldn't hack up a car that's 1 out of 624.

Its probably best to leave it all stock, and just rebuild everything on it...

Re: Stock or Mod

Just do what I'm doing, every factory part that I remove and go aftermarket with I restore the part and store it. That way in the future if you would like to go back stock you can...

I would modify the drive train, suspension, but keep the stock look. They look great already.

+1 on that. If you want to customize one then either get a nice one that has been in an accident and wont have original parts or get ones that there is a multitude of like the sports coupes and such.

It has the WS6 package for suspension, so I dont need to do much there except replace shocks/struts

Re: Stock or Mod

I'd put a glass hatch on it, and call it a day... J/K

Nah, I'd leave it stock if it's mostly original and in good condition. If I really had the itch I'd keep the mods minor, tasteful, and keep the old parts so it could be switched back. I'd really lean towards leaving an unusual car stock.

A car like that deserves to be left in 100% original shape, in my opinion...

Enjoy it...looks like a nice one!

I assume the car was painted previously? How does it look? The telltale sign is that the B pillar birds are way too high...

Re: Stock or Mod

By looking at the pics, it doesn't need restoration. It looks beautiful as it is. It would be a waste if you mod this car up. There are plenty of "need of restoration" ones out there.

It has its share of chip and scratches in the paint...It also needs a new dash pad the seats could be re-upholstered and the wheels can use some more polishing because the clearcoat on them is peeling so it needs to be stripped and re-polished. It could also use a new center console...

Re: Stock or Mod

It's actually 1 of alteast 718. Pontiac produced a total of 718 of them in 1988. The 624 figure comes from excluding the exports to Canada (94 of them).

It could be considered a "rare" vehicle given the low production, however, it hasn't really shown much more (if that) value over a GTA at this time. It wasn't the most successful GM program and the hatches themselves come with a lot of fit and finish issues.

2nd gens are still worthless, outside of '70-'73, but those have been valuable just as long as first gens so they don't really count.

Uhh...have you been on eBay in the last 10 years? You can't even touch a driver quality 77-79 Trans Am for under $10K.

This is how I feel about every car ever made, especially third gens. There is nothing I hate more than seeing a 1982 Z28 with graphics from a 1991-1992 Z28. Totally ruins the look of the car IMO.
