No, they are definitely different sizes as well. The 3rd brake light spoilers are bigger than the non-third brake light pieces (by roughly an inch). As stated earlier, due to the size differences the side pieces aren't interchangable between spoiler styles.

Bigger how?
Every spoiler I've ever seen has a center piece with ends that are flush with the left and right edges of the decklid. If we are talking spoiler width, then they are the same AFAIK. The have to be to open the hatch, unless the non-third brake light model has a center piece which overhangs the edges of the hatch, in which case that would be the bigger spoiler if we are talking width as the OP said, which I'm quite sure isn't the case...the width of the center section in both of my pics stops just short of the fourth section of taillight which wraps around the car.
If we are talking spoiler thickness, top to bottom, or spoiler depth, front to back, then there may be a nominal difference but I've never seen anyone coo over the taller spoiler with the light, the way people do about the 5" Hawk's spoiler.

Interesting, didn't know that, OP should've been more clear in his description of which measurement.
But to answer the OP's question, there were two spoilers, and the '85-'86 spoiler is also the one you'll see on '91-'92 cars. If your '86 is original, then your '85 has an incorrect spoiler since it should match the '86.

front to back wider is what im talking about .. like i said you would have to take a picture from a top view to see it ..the sides are different to ..
Re: how many different rear spoilers did they make for the irocs 85-90 ??
The 87-90 spoiler is deeper to accommodate the light. 91-92 RS's have the same spoiler as the early cars since the light moved to the top inside of the hatch.

Just when you think you know a lot about Camaros, info like this crops up.
A few years ago, I nearly purchased a brake light spoiler to swap to my 85. I would've been sorely annoyed to discover that it didn't match the side pieces. Thanks for the heads up.

The mounting studs are in different locations, as well. I picked up a 91 decklid for my 87 and learned the hard way that they are not the same.
Re: how many different rear spoilers did they make for the irocs 85-90 ??
the reason i asked this is because the 86 i bought had that ugly rear wiper and i swapped to a 87 declid and used my 86 spoiler ..i had to drill the center 2 holes in the declid so the 86 spoiler would fit ...

The monster wiper is bad enough but if the car is equipped with a rear washer, you also have the nozzle mounted on top the car. My IROC has both those and the analogue clock as conversion pieces.JamesC
Re: how many different rear spoilers did they make for the irocs 85-90 ??
the nozzle mounted on top of the car has been removed ,just like the wiper .. i wonder who thought of that option ..lol

I picked up an extra set of spoiler ends today to replace one of mine that has a crack in it. I totally forgot about this thread. they won't work with my car because they are too small, front to back
