I don't know, ever since I bought mine it seems like I see plenty of them on eBay, hard as heck to find decent interior parts though.

Silver or yellow '87 Formulas always seem to be desirable, especially with low miles. Doesn't seem to matter what engine they have.

Gm had a prototype camaro with all wheel steering. I believe it was an 88 iroc concept.
Ive seen an 87 iroc that was donated by GM to the local community college GM ASEP program that
had a rollbar in it and had a prototype brake system that used a synthetic fluid. The car
had a #5 on the B piller next to the window.

Re: What is the rarest of rare third gen....and also whats the most valuable one?????

It was a law enforcement officer in Utah about 2 years ago who owns one like mine , he looked for registered 92 verts z28s and said he found just under 300, I also saw a dealer on Ebay selling one who stated the same thing who wanted 25,000 buy it now, didn't follow up on it to see what it sold for ,

Re: What is the rarest of rare third gen....and also whats the most valuable one?????

Rarest (and probably valuable):

Firehawks
88-90 1LE IROC-Z
91-92 1LE
B4C 1LE
B4C
Convertibles loaded with performance options, especially with 5-speeds
TTAs
25th Anniversary Heritage Cars optioned to the max with performance goodies
Player's Challenge Cars
Oddball cars like the last thirdgen produced, the IROC-Z Concept, an original KITT Firebird from the show, or a car with an amazing story that is well documented, etc.
Indy Pace Cars

If you're looking for an investment, buy a house. But if you are still wrongly convinced a car is a good investment (aren't we all ), all of the above work but then so does a solid, well optioned IROC-Z. When most people look back at the thirdgen era, they think of an IROC-Z with tone on tone stripes, two tone paintjobs, and leaky t-tops. Most folks couldn't tell you what a 1LE, Firehawk, TTA, B4C, etc., were and most won't care. The IROC-Z helped define the decade for GM performance enthusiasts and is burned in the memory of folks who were 16-25 during the thirdgen era. I can't tell you how many people see my 91 and say, "Sweet IROC, I had one in high school and would love to get one again and rock out to Def Leppard and sport a members only jacket in it." I have given up explaining that the 91-92s are not IROCs because most fail to understand the concept and it only leads to disappointment that it is not an IROC-Z. Something like a 1LE with the IROC-Z would be the perfect storm for an auction, which explains why that 1990 IROC-Z 1LE went for $54k.

Yup. 350 vs 305 gets old quick. Folks need to realize that we're talking about a small horsepower/torque advantage for the 350 that was almost completely negated by the slushbox 700R4. This was before highly efficient automatics, SMGs, and automated clutches. I have an old B4C magazine comparison and the LB9 T5 vs. L98 Slushbox figures are very close; the L98 is a tenth or so quicker in acceleration and had a top speed of about 1 MPH faster. They didn't hit the road course but I'd bet good money on the T5...

"But the 350 is more mod friendly..."

True, but we're talking stock. Modified, all bets are off and modified car vs. modified car internet arguments get stupid...

"I put a cam in that 350 TPI."

"Well I swapped the 305 for a flux capacitor and by the time you finish the 1/4 I'll be decades ahead of you."

Etc.

No one has mentioned the MSE T/A's. I would say it is somewhat rare, but not necessarily that valuable. I dont think there are that many quality ones left. Not that outstanding as a performer, but definately a head turner.

Then why bring it up again? The flaw in your logic is that "folks" don't care how big or small the performance difference really is. They perceive it to be so much more then it actually is, and it is that perception which hurts the value of 305 cars. That's the point the 305 preachers miss when extolling the virtues of their 5spd.

Besides that, it's only the smallest fraction of total 305s that break the mold. The vast majority are pig slow, while the vast majority of 350 cars are considerably faster. Go ahead and try to argue that fact, you'll just look stupid trying.

Nobody's arguing 305s are better than 350s. What people are arguing is that the 350 TPI, especially when mated to the 700R4 auto, was not leaps and bounds ahead of a similarly optioned car with a 305 T5.

And as I'll point out again, for the thousandth time in this thread, that doesn't matter. No one except for a few enthusiasts realize that. That niche doesn't create a huge demand for 305 5spd cars. It's a niche, which I recognize exists, but it hasn't propelled the value of those cars above the value of a similar 350 car. The vast majority of people think VERY bad things when you mention a car has a 305, that hurts the value. You guys can cry about it all you want, but the general public treats the 305 with disdain regardless of which transmission is attached to it.

Seriously, get over it.

then you have the factory 350 Z28's that are sent off to get a total make over by guys like Lingenfelter. if you go with the stage 5 up grade. makes for a fun drive.

A 305 with an open air filiment and a new exhaust system along with a 700R4 w/a shift kit is pretty quick.

Uhhh... Let me guess, you have a 305 with an open air filter, new exhaust, and a 700R4 with a shift kit?

Seriously why does EVERYONE think their car is the rarest, or the fastest, or whatever?

Let me just say that i respect the 305tpi 5spd, not the lo3 because that's the black sheep. In it's hay day the 305 was a runner it has been known to take down lt1s stock for stock check these videos out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4XjQGAnksE

That is 13.9 quarter mile time!!!! It could be a factory alien though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNi3q...el_video_title

Here is another video of a 1990 305 t5 taking down a 93 lt1 4l60, Im pretty sure there stock for stock the guy that did this is here on thirdgen.org.

My point is these was some good little engines back in the day.
