Picked this one up over the weekend...

...1992 Hardtop Z, 17,5xx miles. All original (or at least I think so) including tires. $8500 sealed the deal. Body is in near perfect shape. Interior is immaculate. Engine/Tranny need a tuneup. Cam sounds a bit lopey for an L98.... could be a misfire (???). Tranny also shifts real hard like it has a shift kit or maybe just need tranny fluid replaced (???). Will do some more inspecting this week.

Previous owner had it since '02 and she didn't do much to it other than take it to a few shows, but she couldn't tell me much about it. She said it didn't have a spare tire and she bought one for it and kept it in the trunk (where you can see it). She never looked in the spare tire compartment where the original tire, jack and wrench are.... !!!!!!!

This car was towed in the rain (Belleville, IL to Columbus, OH) yesterday w/ some rain so it's a bit dirty.

Going to do a mini resto on this and take it to a few shows. No hot rodding for this one. I just can't tear this one up.

Bring it to the Gears Classic at Mid Ohio Sept 16-18. They are having a 3rd gen gathering of sorts. There is a thread on the forum about it. Would be a short trip-you can take it around the track.

kymee: I saw the mid-ohio plans for Sept. I'm considering. I've done some laps at Mid-Ohio in BMWs, Hondas, etc., but never in a 3rd gen w/ 20 year old tires!

Dusk2600: Yeah, I'm worried the tranny could be going out too. My first 3rd gen, a 91Z did the same thing before it let loose. But I'm planning to put this car in perfect working order over the winter.

Everything looks great... what could need a "mini resto"?

-A couple paint blemishes that I'd like touched up....need to be careful and not make them worse. Front spoiler has the spider web cracking on the driver side.
-Front grille black paint is flaking...will replace or repaint
-Front hood struts shot, replace
-Rear window struts shot, replace
-Heater core has a small leak, replace
-All lines need to be cleaned out/changed (fuel, cooling, brakes, trans, oil)
-Brakes pull hard left, need to inspect more
-Probably will get new tires so if I actually drive this somewhere these 20 year tires don't crack more and pop on me. May get another set of tire/wheels to drive on and keep the original tire/wheels bagged.
-Get rid of the viper alarm that has wires running in strange places
-Only front speakers are working. Rear seat and rear bose deck lid speakers aren't working...need to troubleshoot that
-Other: Don't know yet, haven't done a full inspection on this yet

Yeah, I'm a sucker for the red interior. My first third gen was a 91 L98 red on red. This car was on autotrader, may still be.... check out the asking price....I used the kbb value (4700) to bring the price down

Re: Picked this one up over the weekend...

My brakes pull hard to the right when slowing down rapidly, or braking hard. If I begin to coast to a stop, it's not a problem. both my rear hatch and hood struts are shot as well. There is an aftermarket radio in mine that doesnt sit into the hole all the way because there are wire in the way. In addition to that, when I move the bottom switch to my HVAC unit, it hits the radio and causes it to move and pulls wires loose.
