Production numbers sorted by option code?

I'm looking for a production number breakdown of specific options for 1989 Formulas (if it exists!).

About a year ago I bought and sold a Red/Grey 1989 Formula hardtop with the following options: 305 TPI, 5-speed, dual cat, rear PBR brakes, 3:45 rear end. It also had 200k miles on it and the seller thought he heard there were only 50 or so of the same optioned cars made.

I just found an identical, all original 1-owner 48k mile car a short distance away and am curious if the "50" is accurate or if it's more like "5,000".

Any help would be appreciated!

GM didn't keep track of combinations so nobody can say.

Re: Production numbers sorted by option code?

One of the features of the now defunct Compnine VIN search was a break down of each option by year/model. It wasn't particularly useful though, since if you consider most options, almost every thirdgen is one of less then a half dozen. Most came back as one of one or one of two. You'll seldom find exact identical cars, even if everything is exactly the same sometimes the RPO codes will be different. Snowflakes. Fortunately it doesn't really matter. People are usually looking for an Iroc with a 350, or a 5spd, and they might have a color preference, but thats about as specific as it ever gets.

Re: Production numbers sorted by option code?

The PBR brakes (not sure about that brand of "breaks", so I'll assume we're talking about "brakes") were the standard disc package from 89-up. Nothing unusual there.

The 3.45 gears and dual cats were part of the G92 package for that car. Again, top of the line, but nothing unusual.

However that setup is probably the best stock drive train to ever come behind any TPI motor, so even though it's not particularly "rare" or "unusual" or any of that monkey-spank, it is inherently desirable. Would still be so even if there were 100,000 of them made.

Lay off the "rare" train of thought and what the seller "said" he had "heard" - an intellectual dead end - and simply enjoy the car for what it IS.

Re: Production numbers sorted by option code?

Not looking for a trailer queen - someone will always have a car that's cleaner/faster/lower mileage. Pointless to compete with everyone.

I owned the Formula 5-speed and my 88 TA at the same time and was amazed how much smaller and nimble the car feels with a manual trans. The Hurst shifter was a nice upgrade over the stock lever which I would do again.
