1986 Firebird “delongpre design”

Hello – This is my first day as a member and my first post.
I have two Firebirds, an ’87 & an ’86. They are both very original H-code V8s with relatively low miles. The ’87 is a Norwood car delivered to upstate NY; the ’86 is a VanNuys car delivered to Orange County CA.
I just bought the ’86. It is a stunning burnt-orange color and has “delongpre design” badges on both fenders and the center counsel. The paint and badges appear to be original.
What is the story behind the delongpre design designation? Do these badges denote a dealer installed appearance package? Was this a factory option?
Thanks, Rob

Interesting, in the interior section, some folks just posted about orange colored firebirds that no one had seen before. Looks like they are some rare edition.
Please post pics and all the info you have on these cars.

Re: 1986 Firebird “delongpre design”

Doing a google search I found someone looking for info on a DeLongepre design Fiero. Sounds like DeLongpre design did work for Pontiac in the late 80s-early 90s. After I bought my Firebird, i was having a window motor replaced. The dealer told me one of his guys had found some info and that there were 639 of the Firebirds were sent to DeLongpre in CA to have custom work done but not sure what that was. It has really cool locking alloy wheels. Only issue with the interior on mine is a couple of cracks in the dash that I will have to replace if its the same as the other 92s. Will try to post some pics soon. Ill still be searching for more info.....

to post pics, click on "Go Advanced" and you will see the option to upload some pictures.

Does your deLongpre have a Leather interior? Someone mentioned some special rims, but what I found did not seem to be consistent with just rims, or rims at all.

Re: 1986 Firebird “delongpre design”

Black cloth interior, kind of a "plush" feel to it. Haven't relay seen interiors of other 92 Bert's so I'm not sure if there is a difference there or not. Also the dealer I mentioned before said I stole it from him after he found out a little info from one of his guys. He wouldn't tell me what he thought it was worth but I paid $4k for it with 64k miles.

Sounds like this might be the 86 the OP was talking about... Van Nuys car.
