Was this a factory option?

Saw this car on a salvage website-1988 Firebird. Notice the map pocket delete? I've never seen that before. The kit looks a little different too. Look at the rear gfx under the rear bumper cover. Not a bad looking car. It's a V8 too! Sorry if the pics are too big.

Re: Was this a factory option?

It would be closer to a Pro Am as the Bandit used a fake shaker-type scoop while the Pro Am had used that same type of hood as pictured above. I believe both were made by Choo-Choo customs as aftermarket.

Re: Was this a factory option?

The Choo-Choo aftermarkets used base Firebirds. This Firebird is missing quite a bit of Trans Am features (tail lamps, rear bumper, interior trim) that was standard on the Trans Am in 1988 (as-listed), if it was such an attempt.

Re: Was this a factory option?

Isnt this firebird an 86 instead of an 88. I see the third brake light on the rear glass. I've only seen that on 86 model years or unless the rear glass has been changed.

Re: Was this a factory option?

That's a 86 Firebird with TA ground effects, rear spoiler and front bumper covers. It appears to have firebird fenders and tail lights.

Re: Was this a factory option?

That car is just a mess of parts but it definitely looks to be an '88 Firebird. (It has an '88 steering wheel.) The body is a complete mix of parts. It has Trans Am fenders and front bumper and looks to have a Pro-Am hood. The rear bumper has some kind of aftermarket ground effects and the side ground effects look to be aftermarket as well. (It's hard to tell from the pictures.) It has an 87-90 wraparound spoiler on an '86 hatch. Basically, everything on the body is a mess but the inside looks to be all '88. I don't think the dash pocket is gone. It looks like that is an '88 Firebird dash pocket with the pocket torn off leaving just the padded back mounted on the dash.

Re: Was this a factory option?

The car looks like an 88 Firebird with the choo choo customs Pro Am as JT mentioned. The front bumper, fenders and aero spoiler are the only trans am items I can tell.

Also notice the wood-grain console and dash, which I believe was a part of the Pro Am series conversion.

Re: Was this a factory option?

Definately a Pieced together car.

Back to your question about the Map Pocket Delete, yes this was a Factory Piece, I have one myself, and have seen many others (I used to work for GM in the late 90's):

The Passenger TA side vent was obvious, the Drivers side also appears to be there as well, the angles of the pictures are not indicative to seeing it well...
