Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
These are all interesting and would make for one helluva show field!
I was talking to my boss, Jim Perkins, who was general manager of Chevrolet from '87 to '96 and he ordered and purchased several of them new and actually kept an '87 model he ordered all the way through 1995. At the time, he would have been around 50. It's interesting, because here is a guy who could get any Chevrolet, or GM car for that matter, he wanted and he ordered new Camaros. He also had a factory demo, but purchased these to keep personally.
Here's what he had: A 1985 black/black Conteur IROC, charcoal wheels, silver decals. TPI, 4-wheel disc, hardtop. Drove it regularly until 1987 and sold it with roughly 25,000 miles in 1991. It appeared on a magazine cover with him in 1989 or 1990.
He had a 1987 black/black 350 IROC, stripe delete loaded hardtop. This car had a base camaro hood, polished wheels and a one-off black leather interior. He sold it in 1995. He recalls it had 15-17,000 miles at the time.
Jerry Palmer, the man in charge of Chevrolet Studio Three from '79 through '99 and the guy who is largely credited with the 3rd gen Camaro design, had a couple that he owned as well. He had an '82 4-speed Z28, red with grey interior. He removed the stripes, added export headlamp covers/taillamps and lowered the car about an inch and added 245-60-15 Eagle GT blackwalls. It was replaced in 1985 with the prototype of what became the California IROC. Red/Red Conteur TPI. He had that car for a couple of years as well.
It's neat how even the high-powered within GM even loved these cars. Mr. Perkins will still spend time around them at car shows and museums and Mr. Palmer still regards them as a career accomplishment.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
I would make the same order as many others have already stated like the ones I have now just brand new with a few more options I would of wanted. And the TTA, VHO and some Firehawks. But one I have not seen on the list yet (unless I missed it) is a 91 or 92 Bandit II
the rims on this one are incorrect although similar. Kinda like them better though
these are the rims that came on them
also wish the shaker would of been functional and not glued on.

I know it would not be the fastest in the collection but to me its just something you don't see all that often. I have seen one in person.

I'm happy with my 1985 hard top IROC/Z28, red with black delux int, GU6 G80 J65. If I could order a new third gen I would order a 1991 Croyco Camaro RS stage IV.

1987 IROC-Z, Yellow, tan interior, gold accents T-Tops, L98/700R4, G92, louvers and rear wiper.
2nd Choice
1990 IROC convertible in black with red interior, red stripes, L98/Auto. Not sure if G92 was available or not on the vert but if it was then added and all power/lighting group with CD.

One of my all-time favs as well. This one was on Midwest Auto Collection with like 20k miles on it. Sold last year for 18,000 IIRC. Really nice car. I always go on their site and save the pictures cuz they're deleted when they sell.

1989 Turbo Trans Am, leather and all the options.
Roll it around to the back of the dealership and have them install the Dana 44.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
I'd order my exact car, 91 B4C LB9 T5, no other options, but I'd add 1LE. I guess I could always put the brakes on mine, but can't add the RPO...
And if I were a millionaire back in the thirdgen era... these could be 91-92, I don't think there were any major changes between the years but I'm just putting 92:
92 B4C LB9 T5 1LE - Polo Green, tan interior
92 B4C LB9 T5 1LE - Black on black
92 B4C LB9 T5 1LE - White on black
92 Camaro Z28 G92 T5 1LE - Black on black
92 Camaro Z28 G92 T5 1LE - Red on black
And then because this is cool:
3x 92 Camaro Z28 G92 T5 J65 CD Player and a few power options - one in red, one in white, and one in blue. All with a black interior.
No heritage pack, as I don't like hood stripes on these cars.
And of course a 92 Firehawk with a manual... give me one in Polo Green and one in Black.
And since there's no love for the early thirdgens in my post:
87 IROC Z LB9 T5 G92 J65 - Black on black, gold graphics and wheels
90 IROC Z LB9 T5 1LE - Red on black with silver graphics and wheels
Yeah, I know 90 isn't an early thirdgen but in my mind I divide them into the 91-92s and the IROC years...

Definitely the 1989 Trans Am GTA white, beechwood, T-Tops, Digital Dash, CD Player, etc. Also since we are talking theoretical, SLP would have the firehawk comp package installed on this car. Sweet Dreams but what the hell. HaHa.

Blue /w silver trim 87 IROC Z fully loaded, 5spd, posi, rear disc brakes,
no louvers. If they offered a big brake package and 4.10 gears I'd get it.
Next would be an 89 GTA, white/ tan interior, fully loaded with the GN turbo V6.

I have a question? Why was the '88 T/A T-Top Not a popular car? And why did they keep dropping production, will they bring back a 5th gen?

Exact same car that I have right now except I'd get the 350/auto instead of the 305/auto that it has in it now.

either a black players cup car or a black 1le I wish they made a 350 5 speed t-top car with the 3:42 gears, or the 92 prototype heritage edition would be cool in jet black with black or gray leather.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
This is definetly an oddball but I would order an '87 Z28 Dk. Brown/Gold LB9,5spd. hardtop, tan custom cloth interior (62C), no power windows or door locks, DK6 roof console, B48 luggage compt. trim, D27 locking rear storage cover.
Second choice would be an '85 Z28 Black LB9/Auto, hardtop, red custom cloth (72C), J65 4 whl disc brakes, G92 perf gear axle ratio, no power windows or door locks, DK6 roof console, B48 luggage compt. trim, D27 locking rear storage cover.
I have a 8X10 pic of the aforementioned car hanging on my office wall that I shot back in Nov '92 and had a chance to buy it. It was "the one that got away".

My car in a B4C or 1LE(really rare) with leather and non-waterbased paint.
