The variety on this site is staggering. Let's suppose for a second that you could order any third gen you wanted brand new. What would you order?
Let's keep it to actual production cars, i.e. no 350/5-speeds, 1LE convertibles, etc., but cars that were actually produced.
What would you get?

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
I'd re-order my red '83 Z28 that had the LS Conteur interior, 5spd, 4 wheel disc brakes again, but this time with the L69 that came out just weeks after I took delivery of my LG4 car. The car was a hardtop with no power windows, locks, or seat, either. It also had the non-funtional fiberglass hood, too....
Wish I still had that car. It would be perfect for a LS7/T56/S60 swap and larger brakes, while keeping the exterior and interior all 1983, excepting the necessary wheels to house the big brakes, and some type of modern sound system.

Money no object produced thirdgens only means the only one I'd buy would be a Firehawk with the competition package. Assuming I could only order ONE thirdgen.

1987 IROC-Z, Yellow, tan interior, gold accents T-Tops, L98/700R4, G92, louvers and rear wiper.
2nd Choice
1990 IROC convertible in black with red interior, red stripes, L98/Auto. Not sure if G92 was available or not on the vert but if it was then added and all power/lighting group with CD.

A white '92 Formula, 305 TBI (easiest to change to a carb)/automatic with T-tops and nothing else. And, I mean nothing. No A/C, cruise, power windows/locks/mirrors, etc. NOTHING! Light weight and simplicity are the key here.

Is it sentimental reasons? Concourse? I'm just curious.
Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
I'm not attempting to call you out specifically, this is more as a general question to those have similar answers. Why so plain? Why not go for what we now know as a rare production model, or a special edition type of car.

They only made 78 with the 5 speed, way fewer were exported to Canada.
I haven't seen another one with this engine/color combo.
Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
I forgot to add the reason why I like a 90 - It has the new style 90 - 92 interior with the cup holders with the last year of the old style front fascia.
You couldn't get 1le with T Tops and a Firehawk was way too expensive at the time.
TTA was nice but automatic only so that's out.
I would also consider a green 91/92 vert with a 5 speed and black leather interior.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
Neither my car or I is getting any younger so it's time to enjoy it, before one of us can't. I don't plan on selling it, so the mileage is really a non-issue. I'm old enough to realize now that fire, flood or thieves could take the car even if nothing else does. It's only a car; when it is gone I'm thinking that the memories of driving it will be "happier" than those of watching it sit and slowly rot away. Just sayin'
Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
afremont, if you are unaware, Leonard owns the very last 3rd gen made. GM records show only 70007 Camaros were produced in 1992 and his car is VIN 70008. Check out the site that JT put together for him.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
That's pretty cool, I had no idea on that. According the production numbers here:
http://www.camaro-registry.com/production.htm
there is some discrepancy on the total production number. It's like they might be counting the 1LE models twice, once as an IROC and then again as the 1LE.
This brings another thing to mind. A few years ago it was generally accepted that the 4213 production number for 1990 IROC Z-28 production was inclusive of convertibles and not just the coupes. Now, that's not the case. Also, some production numbers (like L98) seem to be known now, whereas I believe that it used to be accepted that the factory just didn't keep those statistics during that production run. It's interesting seeing history change.
EDIT: Anyone know how many cars the Van Nuys plant cranked out per day?

If I could order that new Jamaica Yellow 92 Formula, I'd be working on wearing it out every day.
The Leonard car is a special case all together. Since it can't be driven, it's not even a car, it's a trophy.
Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
You need to be cautious of information found on other websites. The production numbers on that page listed is definitely incorrect.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
If they made 406 cars per shift, then my car was built during the last four shifts of production. My VIN is less than 1500 from the end. Wonder who got the last IROC. Any idea of the highest VIN number known for a 1990 IROC?
mine would look something like 1g1fp2386ll1334xx
Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
I already have one, but it would be exactly what I have now: 1991 Trans Am GTA, black with Beechwood colored leather interior, 350 motor with all of the SLP options and t-tops.
Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
Too bad you can't actually order that combo from the factory. 350 w/ t-tops on the GTA was n/a

The last '90 IROC has VIN# 134981. It's an L98 red car with grey custom cloth interior (82C).

Firehawk Convertible in Jamaica Yellow

If I could be sentimental Id have my Black 88 GTA Hardtop, L98, beechwood interior again. Got it brand new just out of highschool.
If I could just be downright greedy I would add a 1985 Yellow IROC 5-Speed. With that Lier Siegler Camaro, Camaro, Camaro interior in black (I know I just butchered the name there).
I would be all set!

The car I grew up with... BEAUTIFUL!! 1985 Charcoal Metallic T-top 305 TPI Z28 with the stock black 15" wheels. Black lower ground effects with silver/black decals, Rear window louvers and grey interior. It got stolen in 91 or 92 in Austin, Texas. To this day, if I ever find out who... Come jails, death or institutions, I mean I dont care. He will freakin pay. I am always on the lookout for one like it. There arent many.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?
My exact 92 GTA, but with CD, then I would send it to SLP for a complete comp Firehawk conversion consisting of all the options that #003 had (12-pt cage, fuel cell, driveshaft loops, both Recaro seats, etc).
Hells yeah...
I'd have the only Firehawk GTA, yeah now what! At Least I can say I owned both cars separately haha.
Of course there would then be 2 Dark Jade Grey Metallic 92 'Firehawks lol.
