Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?

Well back in 1990 I ordered a 91 RS that was Teal with gray custom cloth seats, power everything, T-top and T5 tranny. I ordered the RS because I was only 19 and I couldn't afford the insurance on the left over 1990 IROCZ that was still on the dealer's lot. That being said if I could have ordered exactly what I wanted It would be the car I have now. 1987 IROC in blue T-top, 5 speed, gray interior and G92. But I would have ordered the roof console, power mirrors and seats and Cruise control that my car doesn't have. I may have sprung for the leather seats too. I also think it would have been great to order an 82 pace car with cross fire and 4 wheel disc brakes.

I'd go with what I have now.... the 89 G92 5 speed hardtop.

Even the color is fine, dark red metallic ... I might go with the black cloth interior instead of gray though.

it was an ordered car originally.

Let's keep it to actual production cars, i.e. no 350/5-speeds, 1LE convertibles, etc., but cars that were actually produced.

What would you get?
My father worked at the Van Nuys plant as a security guard. One of the guards he worked with was also a salesman at Crossroads Chevrolet. There were three demos Camaros RS that were passed round the local dealers. My father was able to arrange with his co-worker that I could purchase the first of its kind 1987 Camaro RS. It was a five speed with the 2.8 mpi. White with a black interior. It was discounted to $9,300 because it had 3,000 miles on it. I kept that car until 1998 when I purchased a fourth generation F-body. I gave the RS to my brother and reaquired it a few years later. For me that was a true insider deal. In 2005 I bought a 1992 Z28, 305, M5, G92 off of EBAY. That was the car I had wanted all along. Still have it and slowly making it better than new!

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?

I was pretty happy with 1985 Sport Coupe when I got in August of 1986. If I had the opportunity to order it differently I would go with the 5 spd, L69 HO, with the 3.73 posi rear assuming a carb'd 350 wasn't an option. Other than that, I'd keep the same Bright Blue Metallic, medium grey deluxe interior Sport Coupe and go pick on the IROC guys.

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?

I posted a response to this just over a year ago but I have to include an '84 Z28 since these cars triggered the third-gen obsession with me.

1984 Z28 L69, 5spd, hardtop in charcoal with camel custom cloth interior (64C). That way I get the gold gfx, striping and wheels. 4 wheel disc brakes, manual windows and locks. Roof console, dlx luggage compt trim (B48), and locking luggage compt cover (D27). This is an extremely rare color combination but it was available. Only 4 Charcoal/Gold '84 Z28's were produced for the Canadian market. 2 were LG4 cars and 2 were L69 cars.

I would like mine exactly as it rolled off the factory floor: L89, auto, digital cluster, steering wheel controlled radio, CC1 (t-top),the fire red and beechwood tan combo, and of course the AA8 (notchback).

Re: If you could order a brand new third gen, what would it be?

in mind i know what i want...

1) like my ol 89 GTA, only in black exterior with black cloth interior (never a fan of leather) with the SLP performance package upgrades.

2) of course the one and only formula firehawk with the competition package. (roll cage, recaro seats, rear seat delete, t-ram, etc)

3) and of course a TTA with ttops. (cloth interior as well)

4)I'm digging formulas more and more, so for drag strip purposes, an
'89 with a 305, hardtop, 5spd, in color black, white, or flame red. No power options with a SLP performance package...

thinking about colors now...has anyone ever seen a brown colored formula?!

I've seen the GTAs in that color...not sure if i ever saw them in Trans Ams or even the base model...maybe it was just a GTA exclusive..

The color choices on the Formula seem to have been limited to a subset of all the available colors; I know in '89, when I ordered mine, I had a choice of four: Black, White, Red, and the Silver Blue Metallic that I got.

That being said, I've personally never seen a Formula in that metallic brown that some of the GTA's got. I want to say I've seen that (or a similar) color on a base-model 'Bird, but I can't claim that with authority.

The Brown was never available on the Formula, it was a GTA only color in 1987 IIRC. Not a popular one at that either, it was dropped after the one year offering.

I am going to start another thread for this...
