2nd look

I took a second look at an 1990 iroc i am trading a motorcyle for and I noticed that the floors are starting to rot, flaking rust, but I could not find a spot that it was rotted through. It is a 350 car, starts right up and the rest of the body is in ok shape and interior is near mint, just needs a dash pad not tears in any of the seats. The car has 103k on it and a rebuilt transmission with 2k on that. Needs cats, a bumber cover(some rash and a small hole) and the drivers side ground effect needs to be replaced and there are some rust bubbles by the rear quarter on the drivers side. I only paid $1200 for the bike(bike doesn't start). Is this a good trade despite it may needing floors? Looking to get some opinions here.

Re: 2nd look

Only you can answer that. Nobody here can see the car and based on the condition you mentioned, I believe my interpretation of mint interior is not the same as yours. With that, only you can tell if you paid too much. If you feel ok about the deal, then it was right. If not, then you paid too much. My opinion is just that, my opinion. I wouldn't buy the car with rust flaking! The car is worth nothing to me, but is worth a lot more to another guy that can't find anything without holes in it anywhere near them. This will be an opinion thread only and won't provide any valid input.

Totally understand where you are coming from. Your opinion is much appreciated. I don't have the means to do floors on my own but I am sure I can find someone up here who can. Floors make me a little nervous. Definately gonna give it more thought. Thanks again for your opinion.

Re: 2nd look

You have pics?

Define flaking rust, are we talking just a little bit of scale that can be sanded/blasted/wired off or actual rot-through that hasn't actually rotted through?

A '90 IROC is a pretty desirable car, especially in 350 form. Not many around.

Re: 2nd look

Floor still felt solid when I pushed up. I didn't go through and there was no flexing when trying to see if the floor was rotted through. I didn't think to take pics to study it some more. I was thinking the same thing about how many 1990 350 cars were made and how many are still around.

Re: 2nd look

If the car runs and drives then I would say it's worth $1200. My truck has rust flaking all over the frame, but it's solid as a rock, flake and rot are differant. Being a 350 car i say go for it if you want a 3rd gen project.

What? Flake and rot are similar. If the rust is coming off in flakes, then the area is rotted. Not sure why you think differently.

Re: 2nd look

Rust is rust. If you can hit it with a hammer and it does not go thru then you can probably save it with some por-15 but if it is thin, well it is going to need replacing. I'm sure you could find someone to do it inexpensively.

Well myself being an Iroc fan and studying the F-body since I was 12, I can inject my opinion with confidence and my view on your particular situation is that Trading a non running bike that you paid 1200 for in exchange for a 1990 ( Last Year of the Iroc ) Iroc-Z Factory Ordered with the B2L 350 L98 engine was not a Good Move............IT WAS A GREAT MOVE !! True it may have some rust but hopefully its not too serious & can be fixed but that's one Iroc thats highly Saught after and when your lucky to find one its got a 5 figure price tag so good deal. Take some shots from all sides for us to drool over

This is the only pic I have so far. The front bumper cover, the drivers side ground effect and some rust that is starting to form by the drivers wheel well in the rear is all that is wrong with the exterior. It needs a dash pad inside and I noticed a cig burn in the passenger seat when I got her home. But all in all she runs well, lights all work, recent oil change, tune up, coolant and a rebuilt transmission with 2k miles on it. Oh and it needs tires, the ones on there now have about half the tread left but are dry rotted.

All that matter is if you are ok with the trade. Personally from the looks of the car I would have made that trade too. We will be here to help support you as you post any question that you may have.

Re: 2nd look

personally I think it's a good trade. One other thing to consider is how hard it would be to sell your bike and if you like the IROC better I would say it was a great trade.
