First 140mph cluster

Hi,

Does anybody knows when is the first time that 140mph cluster came out in Firebirds or TA/Formula/GTA? Was it 1987?

Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure that's true. Also they are electric so if your wanting to make a swap that needs to be considered.

Cheers!!

The first 140 mph speedo came on the real 1982 Indy pace car. I don't know about the firebirds.

Re: First 140mph cluster

My 86 TA came with a 140 speedo,I can't find anything were it says I paid for it,or if it was an option. So I'm thinking it was standard on the 86 TAs.

The 1983 DT500 real pace cars had a 140 MPH Speedometer and were available over the counter.

They used the Canadian 140 km/h screened faces with the MPH instead of km/h and geared/calibrated for MPH.

They did not have the dual MPH/km/h numbering as the standard 140 Metric km/h ones had.

Here is the standard Metric 140 km/h.

Re: First 140mph cluster

86 was the first year for 140 speedos in both Camaro and Firebird...it was a mid-year availability. My 86 TA had a 140 speedo.

My 86 was born 2/86,so I would assume that would be mid year.Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: First 140mph cluster

I wonder why GM would wait until 86 to make it available in both camaro and firebird?

Re: First 140mph cluster

National Speed Limit was 55. It was to discourage breaking the 55 limit by much.

The 85MPH max speedometer federal law was rescinded.
