Re: Now This Is Rare !!!

I've been watching GTA's for years and I've never seen a brown one. The emblems on a GTA are gold trimmed and are filled body colour under the "glass". This guy better hope he never needs to find one of those in brown.

I never knew brown was a optional color. I'm guessing it was a 1 year only thing? Not really crazy about the color but it is rare. Never seen one before.

I have never seen a brown GTA before. I can't say I like the color, but it's cool to see none the less. Very nice car.

I think it looks good, and it helps that brown is currently the hot color in the paint market.

Wow, I had no idea that that color was even available on a Firebird, much less a top-of-the-line GTA. I've heard of it being on base model Camaro's though. Very interesting!

It's a gorgeous color, but only in perfect condition like this one. Once it starts to fade or gets dirty...it's another story.

It's an amazing looking car, and in perfect condition.

Re: Now This Is Rare !!!

The GTA emblems have been in reproduction for a while and, all things considered, have been fairly decent for a reproduction. The Russet Brown GTA emblems have been included in those reproduction units.

Seemed like in 1978-79 every other Z28 and TA was dark brown and tan like this one. By 1987, they were like the unicorn. Fascinating how fast tastes can change. I actually kind of like it.

Re: Now This Is Rare !!!

According to Frankie at GTASourcepage there was 372 in the Russet Brown.

While the 1987 figures on Frankie's website include Trans AM and GTA, I don't believe the 1987 Trans Am had that color available so that should be the figure for GTAs.

Re: Now This Is Rare !!!

Personally more of a camaro fan than firebird or TA, thats prolly why I have had two Z28s and an SS. With that being said, It does somehow look kinda classy. Would it be a choice I would pick out of almost any color no, but it definatly does not look bad. Funny, same senario with my 00 ss. Single owner HI car, no rear defrost, hardtop auto car with SLP options. The bad she was an auto and pewter. But for 9,500 and a 1,100 truck trade she was mine. Long story short, brought her stateside and held on to her for 3 years and still turned a profit ? where was I goin with this, looks nice

And is that how high they're supposed to ride? It's been a long time since mine was stock ride height...

Re: Now This Is Rare !!!

This is one of those cars that I bet looks far better in person than in a photograph. I thought the car was black from some of the pictures the guy took, and since it is a metallic paint, you'd need full sunlight to see that well in a photo.

I've been watching the internet ads a long time too, never saw one that color come up for sale before. Nice GTA, would like to see it in person. Probably looks great in bright sunlight, maybe not so much on a cloudy day.

I think it depends. I recall the GTAs, Formulas, and IROCs generally sat low but could vary. I even recall seeing a brand new one in the late 80s with a slightly lower height in the back versus the front! This seems to sit a little high but I can't imagine an owner of a stock car like this would make it higher.

Interesting topic. Anyone have any memories/facts on stock ride heights?

That works extremely well with the gold exterior accents and the camel interior.

Plus, rare but factory things like that colour combo are fun and interesting.

Re: Now This Is Rare !!!

This is an exterior and interior color combination with gold accents that I once saw on a new 1971 AMC Javelin. Most of these cars had the bright colors both inside and outside. For the Javelin's body style this combo looked the best.

Re: Now This Is Rare !!!

It looks that way.

1987 GTAs could be ordered without the power equipment/options that would later become standard on 1988+ GTAs. You could order a 1987 GTA with manual windows, non-tilt steering wheel, no A/C, etc.

Car is for sale on CL for $9000 OBO. Auction ended on the Bay with a high (reserve not met) bid of $7500.

I personally love the brown on the GTA and would love to add to my collection.

Man that is nice. I just found a roller 87 GTA on CL same color. Thought it was black from the picks.

I was told I cannot buy it...
He will take $800 for it as a roller missing only some interior trim pieces.

$800 for it as a roller!!! Stupid cheap.
