Would anyone have come across stats on how many of the original 12,105 cars that are left on the road today?

Re: 87 Iroc-Z L98
I'm thinking that might be a bit optimistic. There might be that many salvageable cars left, but they won't all be on the road. The DHS probably knows exactly how many are on the road.
EDIT: Based upon what I paid for insurance in 1990 (being almost 30 at the time) was outrageous. The half-life of a Z-28 must have been measured in days back then. My insurance went up practically every month even though I got no tickets or accidents. I eventually peaked at $450/month for full coverage. Before I bought the car, I checked the prices on insurance and "thought" I had insurance with SF. But they let me know after I bought the car, that their underwriter decided no. I then had to beg for insurance since I was stuck with the car and the note. They still consider my car to have "the big engine", how's that for holding a grudge against a car? It's obvious that the insurance companies paid dearly because of these cars back in the day.

Yea I am thinking about registering mine as a classic, my ins. co. told me it would be cheaper since I drive it very little anyway. I was just wondering how many were still out there. Thanks for the reply's though, I was guessing not to many as I have been looking for one like mine and haven't seen any on used car sites.

But then again, people tended to keep F-bodies around longer than your standard GM car of the era. Go on e-bay and type a given third gen year and Chevrolet into the search engine. Most of the cars will be Camaros and Corvettes. You'll see few, if any, Citations, Cavaliers, Celebrities, Caprices, Chevettes, etc.
No one knows the exact survival number. I've heard 10% thrown around but I think that's more a guess than anything. It would be great if there was an actual study to determine it.

I have one! I'd say it's more like 5,000 though.

Re: 87 Iroc-Z L98
So many young idiots out there whom have trashed pristine Iroc z's lol I pulled my borg warner differential from a 87 Iroc that had its roof chopped off. It was sad to see such a awesome car trashed, I was gonna pull the 5.7 TPI the following day and the wrecking yard sent it to the crusher lol I even saw a yellow 5.0 G92 Iroc that was stripped quickly of all its glory a month ago, so my guess from 12,500 5.7 cars there should be about 30 percent left. Sad very sad!!!

Re: 87 IROC-Z L98
Picked one up last summer, neglected but not molested. Mostly all there, looks original right down to the engine. It was in an accident, I can see where body work was done on the right side quarter and the passenger door was replaced with another L-98 door. Also has a salvage title but all in all, for a 100k mile car not bad. Oh, also has t tops.

Re: 87 IROC-Z L98
It would surprise me if there were more than a few thousand left in "drivable" condition.
If you exclude the rusted out beaters, that number in good original condition may be in the hundreds.
