Need input please

Hope this is the right section. Ok I have been looking for a cheap Camaro to mess around with and just be an around town car, I do not want perfect as it has to live outside. So I found an 88 SC hard top the one that looks like an RS, it has 92K on it, Lo3 in it that runs, but looks like crap, someone put a TH350 trans is in, leaks some, it has 85 WS6 TA wheels on it with crapped out tires. Inside is ok, but front seats are shot. The car is solid, but in primer and some did a crappy job, went over the grille and markers The drivers door is dented up bad, but rest of the body is soild. The under side is flakey, but no holes that I found-might need brake lines, brakes are stick as the car as sat for a few year. The guy that has it now was going to restore it, but never did-he got it the way it is now. It runs and drives, but would be trailed home. I can get the car for $650.00 delivered is it worth it? I mean if worse came to worse I could get 200-300 in scarp for it, sell the bumpers, passener door, hatch and GXF as they are all good and some other stuff. Keep the wheels for an extra set for my car and it has 2 new KYB struts in the hatch I could use on my car. The engine look rough, but all there. Some did wire the fan to the ignition switch ERR, but easy fix. I just don't want to get in over my head.

sounds like more trouble than its worth. you'd be buying someone else's headache.

BAD place to start and nearly impossible to get a project like that off the ground unless you have alot of money - money that can easily be better spent on a more solid and/or desireable third gen.

See that's kinda what I'm thinking, but at the same time I'm not looking to do a show car, Looking to do a driver, not even a work car persay, just something to haul my dogs in, run to the store, that type of thing. I have been lookng hard core the last month around here and let me tell ya, people want some crazy money for 3rd gens that are not much better off than this one. Also I don't want to pay too much for one as it has to live outside and I have a nice 3rd gen already. Well the dude is not getting back to me anyways now so I guess the search goes on.

does it HAVE to be a Camaro/Firebird or do you just need a reliable car? any way you slice it, it seems like the car you posted about is going to be wrought with mechanical problems which = money pit or 3000 lb. paper weight. could be more practical to get any number of cheap cars/trucks to haul dogs & groceries in.

It has to be a 3rd gen Camaro. I have passed on some kinda cool. cheap, nice running and looking cars. I can work on cars for the most part, but I agree the one I posted is rough. Oh well I'm not in a huge hurry, but would like to have one here soon so I can get started on it. I just love 3rd gen and have a nice TA with low miles on it that is garage kept and I still want a Camaro that I don't care about near as much-kinda like the best of both worlds LOL!
