88 GTA AC System
88 GTA AC System
Hello, I am restoring my 88 GTA and I was wondering s few things about the AC system. First of all, the gentleman I bought it from said it was an AC delete car, but it does have AC controls inside. Did they still come with the controls for a GTA if they were AC delete? I know Camaros had different controls but I am not sure about the Pontiacs. It does have the C67 HVAC code (air conditioner frt electronic controls). I know I probably sound like an idiot for asking this question, but any help would be greatly appreciated!
Re: 88 GTA AC System
Do you have the SPID sticker for the car? It should be located on the inside wall of the center console lid. Is this an exported GTA?
According to GTA Source Page, all GTAs either had the the "custom" or "Electronic" HVAC controls:
C60 -- Air Conditioning, Custom -- 4,663
C67 -- Air Conditioning, Electronic -- 5,102
Add those two up and you have 9,765 which is the total amount of non-Exported GTAs for 1988.
C41 should have been the code for the controls for the non-AC vehicles.
My guess is the vehicle was A/C equipped based on how 1988 GTAs were generally full equipped without much in the way of changes, that you have the A/C controller, and that I've not heard of any 1988 GTA without A/C. Ordering a GTA without A/C was possible in 1987, which would have been the C41 code but have not seen or heard of this occurring in 1988.

If the car has C67, it came wth A/C. The various air modes are changed by pushbuttons that activate solenoids that redirect vacuum to thier respective actuators that open and close doors. The temp control is adjusted by sliding a resistor that changes the angle of the blend door motor, just like almost 100% of new cars do it today.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I was told the original owner was trying to order it as a 1LE car so it supposedly had ac delete but the more I looked into it it seemed to have ac originally but the components are missing.

No, compressor is on the driver's side on an 86. It might work if you get everything, including all driven accessories and brackets including water pump. You would be better off getting a setup off of an 88+.
