1986 firebird iron duke

Looking at a firebird today. The guy said was a 4 banger but the tech sheet says they didn't make one in 86 is it wrong? How hard would it be to get the motor rebuilt and running again? Wanting to go full factory no mods other then a radio and new horn. So my question is was there as 86 iron duke?

Nope. 1985 was the last year you could get the 2.5. Either it's an earlier year model car, or someone has horribly downgraded an '86.

Why would a seller promote a 6 cyl as a 4?

High gas prices?

Usually it's the other way around. Guys try to pull off a 305 as a 350.

Maybe he can't count spark plugs and was going for the "better safe than sorry" advertising approach.

I do that here at work a lot when we get an older car with an NOM engine whose casting number comes up as multiple applications with broad hp ranges -- I'll just go with the lowest hp rating so that customers don't get upset if they buy the car and have it dyno'ed down the road.
