History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
on the first line
F - is the build year = 1985
01 - build month = january
A - build week = 1st week

L - assembly plant = Van Nuys, California
612666 - Vin Sequence Number = Body Number, This is also the last six of the VIN

AR9 is the seats
that's as much as i know for sure, i decoded it from http://82firebird.com/DecodeCowlTag.aspx
it's for 82 -84 but much of it is the same for 85, it just didnt give me the color for your color codes
Cool thanks man! So did all under hood trim tags, Trans Am and Firebird, have the S code in the body style? I'm finding some conflicting information on my body trim tag and my actual VIN tag number.
I can not seem to find ANY information on decoding trim tags. Not the 1986 Post RPO codes, but the tag on the rad support, here is a pic of mine, any thoughts? Thanks

Without digging out the books, the first line are date codes and partial VIN numbers. Second line is the interior color/options, Lower and Upper paint codes. Third line has AR9 for the seats, and CC1 for ttops. 4th line says it's a Z28, with a spoiler (iirc). B18 and B33 are probably option codes.
Honestly the trim tags don't tell a lot on thirdgens, so there's not much in the way of how to decode them. A blurb in a book here, or there, occasionally on a website. Nothing on that tag is going to unlock a huge markup in collector value.
D = 1983 Model Year
01C = January, 3rd week build
1FP87 = Camaro
N = Norwood Assembly plant
126377 = VIN
17C = Charcoal custom cloth interior
75L = Red Lower Exterior
75U = Red Upper Exterior
E = Enamel Paint
AR9 = Seat type
CC1 - T-Tops
Z28 = Z28 Camaro
D80 = Rear Spoiler (Standard Z28)
PT = Unknown
The last lines are job sequence and scheduled dates, internal to the plant so I don't think those have any sort of decoding to us.

Super, appreciate all the detail. Just seems strange that there is not simply a "pic" with per line item explaining these tags out there. But that explains why these forums are so important. Thanks again. I think I am going to try sending a message through the GM Heritage site on this subject, probably waste of time, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Happy Summer (finally) all.
