Looking for my 89 IROC-Z

Hi there -- looking for some direction. I bought an 89 IROC new in 89. Was too much money and couldn't afford it. It was repossessed. I don't have the VIN -- the bank through which it was financed has gone under. Anyone know of a way of tracking down a car by the owner's name? Does Chevrolet keep records of who buys the cars? Would really love to know if this car still exists.. Thx so much! j

Check with your DMV.

You're out of luck. If you don't have the VIN, you won't be able to find the car. I'm not sure if DMV holds transfer docs at all, especially since DMV would show the bank as the owner, but 24 years later would be a stretch. The bank would have kept the records for as long as there was a lien. As far as Chevrolet is concerned, the original purchaser of your car was the dealer. They would have warranty paperwork, but again, after 24 years, those docs have been purged.

yeah.. that's what I was afraid of. The Dealership doesn't have info.. the bank is gone.. I know where it was repossessed.. actually had the car rekeyed as the stupid little metal thing fell out of the key and had to have the dealership fix it. Gave them my real address.. gone the next day. Thx

Depends on what state your in, IL keeps old copies in the basement you can dig up.
The title should have your name and the banks name on there.
If you have old INS docs or anything it could help.
You really need the VIN tho.

don't have the VIN.. haven't tried the dealership I brought it to for the repair.. slim chance.. but, maybe there's a history of the repair.. that would be something.
