I'm looking at a 1982 to purchase
I'm looking at a 1982 to purchase
but his description of the car and drive train leave me with a lot of questions
here's his description

I've asked for more pictures, mainly of the interior and engine, along with the VIN.
Also I've never seen a 3rd gen with a hood like this with the 350 emblem on it
your thoughts? He claims the car is 100% original..
thanks

Definitely not 100% original. No 350s in '82. Wrong hood. Hard to say what else without more pics.

You need to be able to look up close underneath this car for rust. Nothing can be said without a butt load of pictures or a visual inspection.

To the OP ,
Run Indian Scout run , run away as fast as ya can !
As randy has identified , it did NOT come with a 350 .
The seller "swears" it's 100% stock , "unmolested"
Well ya KNOW that's a LIE right off . and if the seller will lie about that
??? WHAT ELSE IS HE LYING ABOUT ???

Re: I'm looking at a 1982 to purchase
I've come to believe that not everyone shares the definition of "original", but in this case the seller is either very ignorant or a liar. Just from the single pic alone I can tell you that the hood, wheels and paint color are not factory, nor is any 5.7 liter engine that may or may not actually be under the hood.
You did the right thing by coming here and asking, but I suggest that if it's a 3rd gen F body that you are specifically looking for that you spend some time doing your Camaro and/or Firebird homework prior to purchasing. Research and get to know all about any classic model first before buying. The ownership experience will be a lot better if you take the plunge as an informed buyer.
Good luck!

Re: I'm looking at a 1982 to purchase
That's an 82 Sport Coupe that was probably originally optioned with T-Tops, 4 Speed, and base 305. Very similar options to mine except for the T5 that came in the 83+. Looks like the cowl may be grafted onto the stock hood. Those are the correct wheels for the car from the factory. From the looks of the car, I'd expect to see a mess under the hood of the car from the when the "350" was swapped in. In quotes because I've looked at cars, and ran the engine number codes to find they were 305s. Don't settle for this car... You will ALWAYS find a better one, for the same price if you are patient. You'll be kicking yourself if you don't.

I'd be interested in knowing what the price is. I wouldn't believe for a second that the mileage is correct, but if the price is right, and you do the due diligence on the car's condition and it satisfies you, buy it. If something stinks, don't.

Regardless of the fact I do not know what I'm talking about, I will say in confidence that it is absolutely not 100% original.

It is not 100% original by any stretch. But for fun here are the stock wheels off my 83 sport coupe. T-tops 305 and manual from the factory.

Re: I'm looking at a 1982 to purchase
Never said anything was wrong with them. I just stated they are not original. 68Strat says they are, so I stand corrected. I do not remember those wheels ot that paint color on Camaro Sport Coupes. I know the hood did not come from the factory like that, nor did any 82 Sport Coupes come from the factory with 350s.

Of course you did, you said they were not factory. And this is the "History" section. Factory steelies were also available in red and white. I don't remember other colors, but there may have been others. I'm a huge Sport Coupe fan, but I think the painted wheels are just awful. Joined: Sep 2005

Re: I'm looking at a 1982 to purchase
This is very true. I was searching for a bone stock factory example of a T/A, Formula, Z28 or IROC, and found such a Formula 350 for sale here last year in the classifieds. After a few phone conversations I make the close to 300 mile drive and discover the factory stereo and factory exhaust replaced. I know these are very common changes, but not truly unmolested in my opinion.
