1987 trans am with 61000 original miles, swap engine?
Bought a 1987 trans am with 61000 original miles on it. Car sat for 15 years and the spun main bearing in original lg4. Previous owner put a truck 350 in it. With the miles should i leave the 350 in it or try and put a lg4 back in the car

Leave the 350.If your looking for originality it wouldn't make any difference if you put a LG4 back in because it wouldn't be nos.matching anyway. But the 87 did come with 350s from the factory.

Agreed... my first 3rd Gen was an LG4 car, and it too spun a bearing, I wanted the car to be "all original" thinking it would be worth more... regretted it ever since.. I quickly learned that the LG4, was slightly better than the V6, only because there was less to change when swapping engines. Keep the 350...

yea car has the 350 carb in it, so at least its still a carbed engine. However previous owner said engine came out of a truck and doesnt know the miles on the engine. I am going to try and get cast numbers for block and heads this weekend to see what i am dealing with

I would voice the opinion of fixing the engine that is in it, so the car remains a reasonably low mile original car. TO ME it is worth far more that way. Although, still not worth alot....either way.
midge...did you mean 305 in it? LG4s are 305s.

no i meant 350. The original 305 spun a main bearing after sitting for 15 years so the p.o. removed it and put a 350 in it
