Help with original parts colors

Hi everyone, I'm new to 3rd Gen. Built a lot of 1st Gens but this is my first 3rd Gen. I have an 87 convertible IROC and an 87 T-top car. Both are black 305/T5 cars with G92 and grey leather interiors. I'm into original so I want to build them both as close to original as possible. Not trying to build 1000 point cars but still want to be close.

Anybody tell me the original color of the motor mounts and spindles? Were they black? 60% gloss Black? High Gloss black or were they cast iron colored? And while we're at it how about the brake backing plates? The tranny seems to have been an unfinished uncoated cast aluminum color?

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Help with original parts colors

The backing plates on my car are un-coated. And I know that they haven't been messed with. I think that the motor mounts are bare also just because they get so rusty.

Re: Help with original parts colors

Motor mounts were bare steel with a white paint brush mark between the humps. the Shell that was on the motor was left bare steel. (I acid dip then use dull clear, hate the pits in metal from sandblasting)
You can kind of see some of the org white paint left. My K-member in the pic isn't the "correct" gloss but it'll do 4 me.

Motor mount bolts are black cad? plated, washers are gold cad, nuts are silver cad like plating.
Spindles are bare cast iron
Dust shields are galvanized plated (the 3 bolts are black cad)
Transmissions were all bare aluminum with a silver/dull/nickel coated trans pan.

Good info. TTOP 350!

Thanks a ton. I live in CA and to the best of my knowledge acid dip is now illegal just about everywhere. There used to be a guy up in Windsor north of Santa Rosa but I think he's gone now. Are there small scale products that we can use to do it at home?
