91 Firebird Formula WS6 Build Info & Numbers
I bought this car a year ago to replace another 3rd Gen. A 92 Camaro RS. I was wondering where I can find out when it was built. Also is there any information out there about how many 91's have the WS6 package?. I know they were a Official GM add on from the dealers, are there any numbers as to how many were installed?

You can PM the VIN and I can check to see what records Compnine has for the VIN as some contain the build date.
All ThirdGen Formulas had the WS6 option.

Do you mean put it up here and you will look it up? I'm sorry I don't get short hand for computers very well.
Also I know the Trans Am's, GtA's Firehawk's, and Bandit II models came with the WS6 standard but the Formula's it was an option. I've seen other 91 formula's without that suspension.

PM means Private Message. Click the link below to send me a Private Message with your VIN. Some people don't like posting the VIN in public so this is more private.

WS6 was standard, not optional, on the ThirdGen Formula. If you seen any ThirdGen Formula without the WS6, then it was not a Formula.
WS6 was not standard on the ThirdGen Trans Am as it was optional.
Bandit II cars aren't factory cars.

Bandit IIs were base level cars. I haven't ever seen or heard of any of those with WS6.
As stated above, all 87-92 formulas have WS6 standard. No WS6, no formula.
For when it was built, there should be a decal on the driver door jam that has the build date on it.
Nice formula!

So the production is 5550 (approx.) cars in '91 are Formula, about 1,200 '92 formulas, and about 4400 TA's in '91, and about 550 '92 TA's, but not all of those have it obviously.
I almost bought a Formula (not sure if it was a 91 or rarer '92) in that color blue when I bought my car. Almost wish I had. Sharp car, and a lot fewer of them were made in that color.

Thanks for all the info. I had a hard time finding anything but basic info. What little I know is from a former Pontiac mechanics memory and a couple of web sites.
In the end I love this car more than my old Camaro (She served me for 300,000 Miles). I've put 6000 miles on this car and she turns heads everywhere. The color pop's and needs so little to look like a new car.

Build date shows 1990-04-02
Do you have the SPID sticker that shows the RPO options? That information is also available from Compnine if you don't have the sticker.

Wow. it must have been an early build. Do you know when production started for the 1991 firebirds?
Re: 91 Firebird Formula WS6 Build Info & Numbers
The 1990 model year was cut short and cars weren't built after Mid December 1989. They started building the '91s in early '90, but I don't remember how early.

Re: 91 Firebird Formula WS6 Build Info & Numbers
Early February would be my guess. Around here in KC it takes 1 to 2 months to retool. I think they redid the way they put together the body on this model to cut down on noise. I know it was around this time they started doing that. Add the new nose, plus the time to change the process of the build and test. It would be interesting to know when they did start.
Part of the interest is my original 3rd Gen was made in the last month of production in 92. Also the way I found "The ****" as a gem lost for in time. This was a "Barn/Storage facility find. She had been stored for 12 years in a temp controlled storage facility along with 35 other used classic autos. She had been well taken care of by the original owner. The only cosmetic problem was the word **** key etched into the hood cowling. The person I bought it from was the second owner. He was going to paint it and use it as his personal car but never got to it. I chased this car for a month after seeing an old Craig's list ad. He lived in one town and the cars were in another 1500 miles away. He had moved and was now liquidating. My car was between a 65 Mustang Convertable and a 1971 Charger Convertable. They were both in need of a lot of work, but what a collection!
