The exterior...amazing interior and the rebuilt title make me wonder what on earth happened to it. Maybe it was in a flood and someone put all new stuff on the inside?

Re: Rare IROC For Sale
It looks like a desert car. Someone used it until it broke and parked it in back. From the looks of the paint, it was cooked and sandblasted. The interior looks brand new. I suspect someone found it, fixed it and put in the new interior. In the dry heat and sun down there the interior would have looked worse than the outside. I've seen lots of cars like that throughout Arizona with little rust but everything is faded and cracked.

Hi,
This just showed up craigslist. An 86 Mecham IROC. I have never seen one before. The recaro seats look nice and car looks like it is legit.

Re: Mecham IROC
Never heard of a Mecham IROC, they have all been Trans Ams... Not sure what something like this would be worth... Convincing most people that look for cars, might be a chalenge. Bringing it back to its original glory would be an expense beyond imagination, I would think at least 7,000 - 10,000 to do it "right"
The interior is in good condition considering the location, the paint is burnt like I would expect it from the location. The spoiler is almost gaudy, but kind of neat, not sure if I would want it or not...
It is what it is, and it will sell for what someone is willing to pay for it.

Re: Mecham IROC
I wonder if those Baer Brakes were Mecham installed..
Re: Mecham IROC

That car has already had allot done, I'd say it's a pretty good deal. That engine bay though, daaaaaymn. May as well remove the engine to detail everything and do a rebuild while you are in there. That's allot of time and $$$. Just repainting this car *right* will run you EASILY $7K after labor, I was quoted $6K and my car doesn't have any decals.
God that '86 only 3rd brake light is hideous. VERY cool car though for anyone in Mechams.

Re: Mecham IROC
This car would need to be taken apart cleaned and put back together. No amount of spray wash will get all the grime out of the nooks and crannies. Any place you leave it will become a rust hole if it ever got wet or moist. Any time a vehicle is left outside down in AZ, the dust and sand will make its way into everything. Every corner of that car will have sand and dirt inside any hole or exposed areas. I don't envy the guy who will spend a lot of time, money or both in bringing this car back. However, if you just want a unique beater, it probably wouldn't cost that much. Then who cares what it looks like.

It's odd, but the more I look at it, the more I kind of like the way this car looks as is. If you could beef it up but leave it looking cosmetically the way it is that'd be cool.
Idk, makes me think of mad max or the punisher or something, haha.

That's what I was thinking. A smoking fast car that LOOKS like it will fall apart before the next block go's by. What a sleeper.

Re: Mecham IROC
Here is what he lists as done to the car and some history. I think it's a really cool car. It's close to me here in AZ. I would go look at it but the price is way to high for a restored title car
"New parts in the last 3 months: 4 Khumo tires, windshield, all carpet, dash mat, door panels, seat upholstery, headliner, visors, console rebuilt, perfect dash pad, door weatherstrips, all 4 door belt moldings, seat belts, tint, radiator, condenser, belts, hoses, alternator, water pump, steering box, ps hoses, battery, elec fans and other bits and pcs.
Original owner had the car for 20+ years and at some point it was stolen and recovered. Because the insurance company was involved it received a restored title. I bought the car in 2014 and when I registered it the odometer showed 78k miles and the last tag on the plate said 2000. The car is clean and shows no accident damage anywhere on the bottom or any corner of the car. The only part on the car that appears to have been repainted is the front bumper cover. All the doors, hood and hatch have nice gaps and open and shut nice. Still has the original radio! 100% rust and body filler free, dry Arizona car. The original spare, inflator and jack are in place. Windows roll up and down, all gauges work, pwr hatch release and pull down work, pwr locks work."

Q Tips by the case and a lot of hours. I just spent 3 days detailing a Subaru I recently sold. But my experience with an Arizona car like this is way beyond just Q Tips. Inside door panels and other places where access is only by removal of parts. You could leave it, but if any left over dust gets wet you will see rust eventually.

I never did like the 91-92 wing.I dont see it putting out any downforce, just left-right stablization maybe.Never did like the look either, especially on the first gens.Which ours seems to be a copy of.And the standard wing is just a lil downforce.I always felt there was something missing when looking at the rear of these camaros.
That one looks like it covers both. And yes,Different.

Re: Mecham IROC
Found this, thought I would add to the conversation.
Mecham Camaro From Camarosource.ca
Mecham Camaro From Camarosource.ca
Why was the "Mecham Magnum" IROC-Z started? Back in the 1960's there was the Modified Yenko Camaro and the Shelby, the 1980's had the Mecham Racing out of Glendale, Arizona. Dennis Mecham, owner of Mecham Design, Performance, builds winning SCCA (Sports Car Club Of America) Trans-Am race cars. His company also modifies and sells F-body Cars for the street-and activity they're pursued with the Firebird Trans Am since 1977... Mecham Racing decided to try and do the same for the IROC-Z.
What exactly is the "Mecham Magnum" IROC-Z?: In April of 1985, Mecham Racing began offering a modified IROC-Z to the racing public (customers). Essentially this modified IROC-Z was a stock IROC-Z where they then added goodies from the extensive Mecham catalog.
What were featured in the "Mecham Magnum" IROC-Z?:
How much and what were added to the customers Mecham Magnum IROC-Z depended on the buyer's wants. However the basic Mecham Magnum IROC-Z Camaro ran a blueprinted port-injection system for optimized fuel and timing curves for the 305 V8. This increased horsepower by about 25-30, depending on year model. You could also specify a mildly warmed over 350-H.O. V8 (Street Legal) or the wilder, non-smoggable 350/350 Macho engine dressed to deliver 350 bhp. This last came with a Holley carb on an Edelbrock manifold, GM HEI distributor, and Tri-Y exhaust headers. Finally, and again for off-road use only, you could add a Chevrolet 406 V8 spitting out 400 bhp on regular fuel, a Doug Nash 5-speed, and a Dana 44 rear axle.
Suspension modifications included lowering the car an inch all around, adding Koni adjustable shocks, and increasing the spring rates slightly by adding new units. The Mecham treatment further included new swaybar pivot bushings and specific alignment settings.
On top of all that, there were 16-inch Ronal wheels and VR50 Goodyear Gatorback tires which gave even the base Magnum a skidpad number of .95g. And from there on, the sky became the limit. Trim items included the Mecham competition aero rear wing, a 4-spoke leather steering wheel, 170mph speedometer and matching tachometer, special decals and striping, Recaro seats, and special paint colors.

Re: Mecham IROC
I remember when second gen Mecham Trans Ams were this price and a hard sell because nobody knew what they were. I didn't have the 6K or so then. Now I don't have the room.
Looks like the seller knows what he's doing. He's restored some things while leaving all the Mecham originality.

Re: Mecham IROC
Some of the things that bother me:
1) The Mecham supposedly came with unique 16" wheels... They are not there (of course this is taking information from a different website.)
2) The Baer Brakes are not original, not a bad upgrade mind you, just if you want a Mecham... it would not have Baer Claw Brakes is all...
One thing is for sure he is in the right area... Mecham is in Phoenix...

It would be interesting to see where Mecham had them made... I bet they would tell you if someone really wanted to and see if they would still make one, or sell the tooling.

One thing that I have to ask, maybe someone knows... The Seats, are those period correct?
The reason I ask is the Recaro seats I have seen from the day all look like the seats in the Recaro Trans Am with the nets in the headrests

Those look like period correct Recaro LS seats that were very common in the 80's. This link has a lot of great info on the old Recaro's. http://rennlist.com/forums/general-p...rce-guide.html
Recaro's had a lot of different options. The mesh was just an optional headrest.

Hi,
This just showed up craigslist. An 86 Mecham IROC. I have never seen one before. The recaro seats look nice and car looks like it is legit.
