We are far from being there yet.

If this car doesn't end up junked, it will probably get a rattle can paint job, a junkyard mystery V8, and some weird wheels. When the motor stops running and the hacked wiring catches fire, it will be scrapped.

Because I haven't seen a really nice, stock, base Camaro/Firebird in a looooong time. 20 years from now, people will think all 3rd gens were IROC-Zs and GTAs.

too late, they already do. I get complements and asked about my 'IROC' all the time...I've had one guy ask me if it's an 82 or and 83 Z28, that made my day.

chazman-you can buy my base 82 bird. Its going up for sale as soon as the weather breaks. Then you can look at it all the time!

You know kymme, I love your base Firebird. If it were an Iron Duke and a stick, even better. Wish I had the garage space for it, I'd DEFINITELY consider it.

Someone near me, who also posted it on here, had a beautiful, low miles, base Camaro SC with a 2.8L/ 5 speed for sale. No garage space for that either, and it was too nice to sit outside.

The IROC notion is what gives a lot of thirdgens their allure.

In US no one would fix that I guess but in other countries that would be a cool project.Guess that saying a man's garbage is someone's else jewel is true .

I still can't believe how people say 2.8 is a tiny engine...I mean I see in germany people saying 1.5litres is big...can't we say that 2.8 was ahead of its time?

Re: I look forward to the day when cars like this get restored.

I really think an SC with IROC or Black GTA wheels really looks good...

With that said, most people when restoring 1st gens would not restore a 6cyl car either... you really do not see many base Camaros or Firebirds out there from the 1st & 2nd gens that are still all original.

The only 1st & 2nd gens really getting a true all out "restore" are those that are higher end as it is. Last time I checked you could get a really nice 6 cyl 1st gen for under $10,000...

This is true - I sold my 1968 LeMans Sport this fall for $7,000 and the only reason I got that was it was a 3spd manual. Not an F-body but similar OHC 6 cyl.

Re: I look forward to the day when cars like this get restored.

There is a guy out here who shows an 85 Berli with the digital dash and the radio on a stick. It's a fully optioned version with T-tops and it is cool to see them. Not sure we will ever get to a point where a plain jane 2.8 will be a resto project but I am sure someone somewhere will do one just because it's their thing.

The Berlinetta was one of those unique cars, it was a neat package with the pedestal cassette deck. I think the LG4 would be a definite upgrade... If it was me, I would be really tempted to get an Aluminum block LS engine and put it in a V6 berlinetta...

wow.jpgberlinetta.jpg Look at the Berlinetta and the z28 side by side and that answers why most people don't hardly fool with restoring a Berlinetta. The front clip on the Berlinetta is horrible!

I love to see a car that is not a very desirable model or trim level restored bone stock. I know this one probably won't be, but it would be very cool IMO.

Re: I look forward to the day when cars like this get restored.

the thing to remember here is that even if you take the car that is the subject of this thread, and relate it to a First Gen, nobody is restoring factory 6-banger 1st Gens into fully restored 6-banger 1st Gens. They're restoring them into V-8 restomods and clones. so with the car in question (which looks very solid) I can see doing a V-8 swap, but not a nut and bolt restoration. i don't see the point.

This is true. We've all seen lots of '60's and '70's base, straight six cars which have been restomodded with a V8. But the rest of the car is also respected, getting the appropriate attention it deserves.

With that said, I am starting to see base cars of that era getting restored back to stock and I am certainly seeing survivor base cars being lovingly preserved.

So true! The Lemans I posted above will be a Resto Mod GTO clone sometime later this year from what I understand.

No need to wait for that day, I'd gladly restore that car if I bought it. Of course I may be a little biased since I prefer no ground effects to ground effects any day of the week. I know first hand just how hard selling or showing the general public base cars is.

It used to be,..... After MAJOR metal work to save the car I sold that 86 Coupe to a buddy in Mass about 4-5 years ago. Sadly; The car got smashed and was totaled a few years later.
