History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Hey guys, this is going to be my first(but not last post) I have an 84 Trans am, and I just picked up the cars original wheels from the 1st owner, been in storage for 20 years, I'm trying to figure out if these are worth anything, or if there's anything special about them. There's very little information on these.. Any help would be helpful, thank you! They're size 15x7

Reason: Updated.
those are the turbo wheels for the TA from 85/86 (and others I think) in gold. they were only on Gold and Black TAs and all gold TA and maybe even white and gold?

My car is white and gold, and is an 84, why I thought it was odd, most were 16s
They're nothing special, just the usual Hi-tech rims painted gold, not really rare. Off course less common than the machined/charcoal ones. It was optional on cars with gold lower accent.
Only the entire car can be worth more with these on if it's all original, but by themselves they're worth as much as the normal 15x7 Hi-Tech rims.

agreed. I didnt cover if they were valuable. they are not except to someone who had that option or would like to pretend their gold and black TA would look better with that option. they are more rare than the the machined ones..
but only work for a certain look
I think it was only a 1983-84 thing too, I don't recall ever seeing a more recent model with gold Hi-Tech rims. So they're somewhat rare indeed, but in that case it doesn't mean they're worth more since they can be done easily with a normal set of these and the correct paint.

So they're rare/valuble to the right person, thank works for me! I'm working on restoring mine back to its former glory, and these rims will complete it.
It's not rare. The gold ones are, at best, uncommon, but I seen these many times.
The N78 was the code for the Hi-Tech rims, mine has it too, and most '84 Trans Ams had these rims. The N78 code was later changed for N24, but it's still the same rims.
The color code for those wheels is 55P.

Re: 84 Trans Am Gold 15 inch rims question?
Keep in mind that in 1985 & 1986 they had Gold Wheels for the WS6 Trans Ams... It was the commonly (yet inaccurately) called Flat style Formula Wheel. When in fact it was also a wheel used on the WS6 Trans Am from 1985-1987...
That is neither here nor there, wheels can be painted easily enough, and without proof of a SPID, all we have is the Parts Catalog to guide us.
In 85 they changed the RPO Code to N24 AND IT LIST THE COLOR AS L.Chestnut, then for 86-87 the N24 was available in Gold.
The Cross lace wheels came out between 82-84 (not sure what year)the RPO Code for those was PE1 14/7 and they were available in L.Chestnut, then for 85 they had 2 different size Cross lace wheels available in L.Chestnut and available in two different sizes,PE1,14/7 and N90 15/7
for 86 the Cross Lace had two different sizes N90 15/7 and PW7 16/8 both available in Champagne Gold
87 the PW7 was available in Gold Met 52P

Here's those wheels your talking about, this is from a 86 Dealer POP Material They are the N96 16/8's Cast Aluminum
why? because of the areo spoiler? in 86 it was black and not smooth and painted. I do not see the third break light at the top of the back glass...
I think it is a 87...
These were a common option for all Firebirds in '85, not just TA's. I ordered my '85 pictured here with the gold N24 wheel option. It was a base Bird with the 5 speed, FI, V6 offered at the time.
