History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Wow. The 82 Camaro just sold for $2750! What a steal. Just go's to show, never sell at auction early on the 1st day. They always give away beautiful cars cheap.
Next the 86 IROC sells for 5K

I don't know about the '82. It sold for less than it should, but it's not really gonna bring much when you consider that it's a non-factory repaint, rims have been painted, steering wheel has a wrap probably because the leather is trashed, aftermarket accessories drilled into dash on left side, aftermarket exhaust that's not California emissions compliant, dash carpet probably due to cracked dash and a faded interior. Also, who would paint a car maroonish/brown when it has a burgundy interior? They also painted the ground effects with chameleon style paint. It looks horrible. The car has no curb appeal and it's possible that this was all the car was worth.
The '86 IROC-Z sold for $5k. Again, a bit low, but without seeing the car in person, it might not show well enough to bring a higher amount. The engine compartment in these pictures look pretty crappy. Hopefully it looked better when it crossed the block. It's also running very rich, as seen on the rear bumper cover. That's a red flag to many buyers that the engine may need work. They also didn't give us interior shots to see how it's held up. it has a non factory shifter handle, so what else is incorrect on this one to keep the demand down.
The '84 Trans Am sold for $15k. This car shows well and has the performance options of the L69 with low miles. With 10k miles on the car, this one should have sold for more also. Shoulda requested a weekend sale!!!
The 1990 IROC-Z sold for $13k. The car is lowered, custom hood, painted wheels, 383 engine, shaved door handles and a 6 speed trans. This one proves that a potential entry level IROC-Z is more valuable with modifications. If this car had the LO3/Auto with 2.73 gears and who knows what else, and now it has a 383/6speed, it's more valuable modded.
The '92 RS sold for $4500. Custom cloth interior '92 with the auto trans, but has a polished TPI sitting on it today with a K&N cone filter. Could be a B4C, but it's not listed that it is, so I'm assuming transplant. The car appears fairly clean, but it's hard to tell what condition the paint's in. If it isn't a B4C, it was seen as just an RS buy the bidders. It could easily have been a V6 originally and they replaced the engine and also the wheels to make it more appealing. Who knows.
The 1991 California Patrol car *REPLICA* sold for $22k. Appears to be period correct and sold for a good price for a 305/auto. No complaints on a replica selling at $22k.
1987 GTA in White with 61k miles with TTops for $6500. Only one picture, so I can't tell what condition it's in, but it looks good from that one picture. Sounds low to me.
I agree with you Scott. This was not a great auction for 3rd Gens. Both the TTA And Formula should have sold for more. What is good is the trend towards more 3rd Gens at these auctions. When I started keeping track of these cars at Mecum and Barrett Jackson, there would be one or two. Three if it was a 3 day or more auction. Usually offered only on the 1st day. Now they make the Saturday auctions with regularity. The prices are usually low but not always and seem to be climbing on the rarer versions.
Excellent run down Scott - for once I agree with everything you've said.
The TTA should have done better with such low miles, although the GN's have not held as strong as I would have thought so that may have something to do with it.
