paint work on 5k mile iroc ??

how bad would it effect the price on a original owner mint 5,000 mile iroc if the front bumper cover was repainted ? he said it got scuffed in the 80's and the dealer sprayed the front bumper .. i was all in to buy it until he told me about the front cover .. besides that the car looks brand new ..

This car?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Ca...m=281859666033

Looks gorgeous otherwise. I hate it when original cars low mile cars have been repainted, but the nosecap being redone is better than a door or something like that... If a door is redone, the texture of the paint is almost always different than the quarter and the fender, not to mention overspray on trim which kills it for me. At least he is being honest, most people wouldn't be and many cant tell the difference. But it's a big thing to me, all three of mine have original paint and I wouldn't have bought them if they had been resprayed or touched up.

I had the cash in hand to buy this car until I saw the drivers door and quarter were repainted.... 6800 miles... it was well done but I could tell, the orange peel was slightly different than the fender and there was overspray on the window sweep and the trim under the mirror... it would always bother me and I would have seen it every time I got in the car so I passed, it is something I could not get past and there is no going back, once it is resprayed it's forever. Was beautiful and very rare otherwise!

Yeah the flaw on the hood is factory, I have seen others with it in the past so it's ok to me. The bumper cap would bother me though... Did they replace the stripes? Is it noticeable around the headlight buckets or where the fenders meet the car? It's too bad he didn't just leave the scuff. Gorgeous car otherwise though, it was kept the way it should have been over the years. Keep us posted on what you do. Do you still have the red 87?

Seems A Bit Extreme To Paint The Whole Front Bumper,How Many Chips Would You Get Driving 5,059 Miles. To Me Any Chips Would Add To It's Originality.

Re: paint work on 5k mile iroc ??

I think he said it got scuffed, so thats up to complete interpretation of what a scuff is.

Personal, if you really like the car I wouldn't let the bumper become a reason to stop you. A good body man can match the factory quality to the point where it would be very difficult to tell the difference. If I was in your shoes and was going to pull the trigger, I would take a good look under the car and look for the vin number stickers on the impact bar as well as the fenders, hood, etc. if everything else looks like original and all the fasteners appear not to have been adjusted or tweaked, that wouldn't bother me that much. It's just the bumper cover. I would have bigger reservations if it was the hood or fenders. Just look at it close and make sure nothing else was resprayed. But keep in mind, some of the best body guys can fool anyone's first inspection. That's my $.02

I am also making the assumption they used vin stickers in 1985. Not sure on that.

I wouldn't let that bother me. That car is beautiful. But the tires are not perfect being 30 years old LOL!!

Nice price. But I wonder why a door and 1/4 would need painting. Also the muffler/tailpipe area needs some TLC.

I understand why Erik walked away though ....when you want a perfect car, you want a perfect car.

I think moving forward, as I sell off a couple cars, I'll only be looking for really low mile samples to replace them with.

Yeah it was $17,500. Rare car with the 5-speed hardtop and leather, perf rear, etc... optioned just like I would have wanted it. When I walked in to see it, the passenger side was facing out towards me. The car glowed, I was really excited until I walked over to the drivers side. I worked at a resto shop for years back in the day so I am really good at finding repaints... It was only the top half of the door (they masked it off at the molding) and the full quarter and the quarter had some filler in it. I was so disappointed, but if I bought it I would have not had the space to buy my '92 which i'm thrilled to have.

So something must have happened to it, like a scrape or hit?

Somehow I missed the door & quarter repaint part Pictures of why it was repaired would have been huge.
