Yellow 1992 Formula, 350 w/T-tops

Not sure if this all original or not, judge for yourself.

The VIN is posted for whoever has Compnine to verify.

Re: Yellow 1992 Formula, 350 w/T-tops

The VIN does verify it's an originally equipped from the factory with L98, CC1 and yellow.

Compnine shows his figures slightly off. Shows 11 - 1992 Formulas with L98 in yellow. 9 of those 11 have CC1 T-Tops.

Re: Yellow 1992 Formula, 350 w/T-tops

Seems kinda rough for the mileage. The throttlebody plate and the holes from a strut tower brace suggest it's been played with. Looks like someone didn't get the accessory switch panel mounted correctly. IDK, it's a rare car, sure... but it just doesn't grab me. Maybe I'm getting too old to appreciate a yellow car. I'm just not seeing a tremendous value for $10k.

Ohhh... I really like this car.

The Lexan t-tops look to be in really poor shape, but that isn't a shock.

It also has the original cats cut off and pipe installed inplace of them.

Odd that it didn't get the Formula 350 decals?

Formula 350 on the doors wasn't used on the later Formulas. Instead, it should say 5.7 on the hood bulge, which it appears to in this case.

Car does not look too bad IMHO... I suspect a repaint tho... just a suspiciion... It looks nice, Most of those little things can easily be fixed.

Says in the comments section that $10,500 is the magic number.

Re: Yellow 1992 Formula, 350 w/T-tops

But then in the next sentence he says that's "way less" than the reserve. The bidding is under $4,500 with less than 4 hours to go. I don't think his numbers are realistic, but I suppose it's possible two... uh... Yellow Pontiac Enthusiasts... could get in a bidding war in the last 10 seconds.

For the kind of money the comments are suggesting, the car really needs to be presented better. The photos don't show much, and they aren't at all flattering to the car. Also seems like there's some bad info in there, like the suggestion it's a 9-bolt car.

It is not a 10k car in my book. Not at all. Nice car and maybe a nice buy for 5k.

No kidding, the shadows in the car made it look like it has a huge dent in the front bumper cover. He was asked about it in the comments but apparently doesn't see it in the pictures.

He does mention that the paint has been "freshened", which who knows what that means. Makes me more hesitant to buy sight unseen as who knows how well that was done and how the colors match up.

As much as I like this car, for 10k I am buying a car with 1/3rd the mileage. The rarity here just doesn't translate to that much more valuable than a normal 1992 Formula.

Re: Yellow 1992 Formula, 350 w/T-tops

Ended at $6,500, reserve not met. Funny but that's about what I'd say the car is worth. Maybe even a little on the generous side really. If everything were correct, it was detailed and looked perfect, with photos clearly showing much more detail, it might be a $10k car. Even if the auction had been set to end on a weekend evening it probably would have gotten more bids. Having the whacko reserve stated in the comments probably kept some bidders away too. I think it could easily bring a bit more, with some attention to detail, but with that auction, lack of effort, and the astronomical price, I don't think the seller really wants the car gone.

I think you are right Drew, it seems to be a half baked attempt to sell his car, but not give away any details that might detract from it. I think if he made a real effort, cleaned up the engine bay a little, even if he just touched up the rust on the strut mounts and on the valve covers it would have made it look a lot better. But it did not look like he wanted to put a real effort into selling the car..

Probably told his wife, "yeah I will sell it on ebay" and then not really try. There is so much he could have done to make it look better, even by not changing the condition of the car, but just more pictures.

Re: Yellow 1992 Formula, 350 w/T-tops

Very few 3rd gens out there that are truly "all original" and those even with 40K on them can show their wear and tear, especially if they were enjoyed.. The paint can be shoddy at best from the factory especially a Van Nuys car. The car in question has had some help with the paint...

The spots on the strut tower look like a strut tower brace was installed at one time.

The bolts are still there too... When I repainted my car I filled mine in and you would never know they were there...
