Check the RPO list !
It either in the console OR in the luggage compartment lids.
It should have a G in the first letter
Also look for G-80 and possibly G-92.

Yup, check the spi/ rpo code decal, it should be in the console.
Is the car a 5speed or auto? That would help our guessing game.

There was no G92 option on the Firebird in 1987. It was all tied up with packages. For example, (Cars sold in the US) All Formula & GTA LB9/MM5 cars have the 3.45 axle, or 3.42 axle. All Formula L03/A4, LG4/A4, LB9/A4 have the 2.73, The L03 & LG4 with M5 got the 3.08, the Formula & GTA 350 cars all got the 3.27 or 3.23 axle. The Trans Am was a little different, with the LB9/M5 got the 3.08, but some years got an optional 3.42, and the Trans Am with the 350 I would have to look into.
