Anybody know where to look for the "hidden" vin location on an 84 camaro z28?
I'm looking at buying one, but the VIN on the title is off by one digit. I figure one of the following is true:
-Someone made a mistake on the title
-Someone made a fake dash vin for a stolen car and made a mistake

Guy said I could put it on a lift and look, but not remove any body panels.

 

AFAIK the vin is on the spid (center console) and on the dash drivers side.

 

Decal in the driver's door jamb. Under the passenger's side fender. 84 should probably also have a body tag on the rad support with a partial VIN.

 

I dont know if it applies to your 84 but I have been detailing my 88 and the VIN is found in multiple places that are not hard to find but they are all on easy (for a thief to remove) stickers too. Found in the console on the build sheet (SPID), under the hood, in both door jams and hatch.

 

The VIN stickers only apply to a few years in the middle of the 80s. Early and late thirdgens didn't have them. 87-88 or 89 IIRC.

 

My 88 GTA definitely had the stickers, and I fairly sure my 91 GTA and 92 Firebird also does

 

Betcha they don't.

I've lost count of my 91s at this point... Four? Five? None have had the VIN stickers. Been deep into several of them, nada.

1987 was the first year for VIN labels on body panels.

 

Have to agree with Drew for the 1992. Although the 1992 Firebird service manual makes mention of the theft deterrent VIN labels being required by Federal law on certain parts on selected vehicles (their words) to help reduce theft by having VINs on major body parts, my 1992 T/A does not have the theft deterrent VIN labels like my 1988 GTA has and I found that to be the case for other 1992s that I looked at. Not sure exactly when they got dropped.

 

Story I've heard is that with the pass-key, theft dropped a significant amount within 1-2 yrs after it was installed. Which was enough to drop other theft measures.

And what is 90* ? 90 degree?

And where is that... reword your english.. be descriptive. Dont show me a close up of something I dont know where it is..

 

I have faith that if you go back and read the description, and look at the photo, you will figure it out.

Hint: The top VIN in the photo is the same one dude shows in the youtube link you posted. The other is 90* and below the first VIN, on the outer face.
