Re: Clean "base" '89 IROC-Z

Serious question for the peanut gallery, what's this two owner car worth? LO3, auto, 2.73 peg leg.

If you think I'd let this car go for like $4k, you're high as a kite.

For these 1-2 owner cars that have been cared for and are well sorted turn-key cars, there's value in the ownership history itself, even if the performance isn't there. Besides, it's not like 245 hp exactly set the world on fire either. I wouldn't part with this car for a penny less than $7k (not for sale), so there's no reason that black IROC can't fetch its asking price. The reality is, for cars like this that have long been retired from daily driver status, the sellers control the market, not the buyers. If you aren't willing to pay my price, you aren't getting my car, plain and simple. As a whole, the owners collectively can say the same (like GN owners did) and suddenly the market value moves up. For some reason the 3rd gen crowd still hasn't grasped that yet.

Works both ways. If Joe Dork thirdgen shopper can buy your car for $7k or another just like it for $5k, you're not going to sell your car either. Market value is established when sellers and buyers reach a number they can agree on.

I h8 to see the prices going up. I'm not in this as a means of making $ but rather to enjoy a platform i have always been able to afford. I don't want a 20k Iroc i want a 7k Iroc I can drive and enjoy.

I think with our platform there will always be affordable Camaros and Firebirds out there for us enthusiasts They made a couple million of these cars through the 3rd gen platform. With that said it will get harder and harder to find the nice 7K cars as the $ makers swoop in trying to make that buck.

Not yet. Apparently father and son drove two hours to look at it and ASSUMED it was a TPI car. They left without buying it.

The timing is not right for me now, otherwise I'd go down there with cash and check it out and probably drive it home, to be honest.

I wouldn’t have bought mine if it was $20k (They had it listed pretty much there). I was hoping for around $10k but the market had already moved up in 2014. When I was looking, the most expensive comparable low mile example I could find was $27k. Now there’s similar cars listed $10k higher than that one!

I see cars like mine listed for $10k more than I paid for mine and some are not in quite as good shape and have more miles.

The market has moved a lot since 2014 and I can see why there’s a sudden discomfort about it. One day you plan on getting a nice thirdgen and the next day the prices shoot up $10k. You have to wonder if it’s for real..

For me it went from saving up to buy a nice low miler to having to get a car loan for a classic car these days..

But to what Puma said, I probably wouldn’t sell mine even if I was offered $25k. It’s not for sale. Especially with the prices going where they’re going.. I’d never be able to get another one..

To what Drew said.. If you did want to sell, you’d have to market your car the best you can and come to a price with the buyers. If all the comparable prices are high and you have a good presentation, they’d be forced to meet you at your price. If these dealers start lowering prices to unload cars, we’ll see. I think the auction attention and classic dealers are driving the prices up right now.

My opinion is that these cars were on a steady price incline but the recent bump is somewhat artificially induced by classic dealers pushing the “hot new” classic investment.. “Get in now before you regret it!” I think the prices should be going up, but some are a little overpriced right now.

This is is what I’ve seen if you had a mint, high optioned 20k mile car and sat (stored properly) on it since the 90s

Timing really is everything. I have had to pass on some great cars just because it just was the wrong time to buy. I bet this one ends up sitting for a while due to the lack of tpi and t tops. That may work to your advantage. Your also going into the winter months soon. So if it does not sell within the next month it’s going to be sitting a long time.

The seller sold his home quicker than expected and needs to be out of state by the end of the month. He really didn't want to ship this car, but he may have to.

Things have been terrible on a 200 mile radius of my zip code on CL lately. I check it every day and this is the last 3rd gen I've even been mildly interested in.

If I were in the market for another one....I'd seriously consider this one. What a cool color combo, and one that you never see. I think I've seen 1 other one on this board, and have never seen one anywhere else.....

That’s the exact car that got me into my burgundy IROC.. my buddy’s cousin who always had cool cars had one of those and it inspired him to get his burgundy 87 5.7 and then I got my 87 5-speed..

Everytime we saw a car like that (maybe 2-3 times) we paid respects to his cousin’s Z28..

That’s a cool car..

Someone on here has one in that color scheme I believe..

That's cool. Yes, there is one on this site and I believe it to be local to me. I'd like it a whole bunch better if it were a stick, though.

Someone go get this one - I went over and looked at it - it's pristine, show winner quality - I just decided a vert was not for me right now....but maybe someday

I love thirdgens and am for preserving them, but that 89 IROC L03 is the perfect car for a swap... but not LS - do a built 350 TPI to keep it period.
