History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Woof! That black vinyl would SUUUUHHHHHHCCCCCCCKKKKKK! on an August day. Hop in and find yourself in the burn ward.
I see things like that, and I want to look at the order sheets for 1986 to see how cheap the original owner had to be, to skimp on at least the cloth upgrade. It might be one of those cases where cloth seats would have required an entire option package that would have increased the price, or maybe there was a sales incentive that made the vinyl an attractive option? Anyway, that'd kill it for me before we even got to the third brake light.
Shut up and take my money! In all fairness, this looks like a nice car and would only cut about another 3 decades off of the time period it'd take me to finish restoring mine to look as nice. Granted I don't have but a third of that much invested in mine, but still...
wow another sweet z28 5 minutes from me and its a 85 tpi car and says all original and in mint condition with 70k on it for 11,000
Don't see many in Beige... Always called my 83 "Cream" in it's off-white greatness. An unusual color, but the only way I'd consider it rare or desirable is that bit of nostalgia in me for my Sr year of high school and the summer that followed. Not sure I could handle the pastel cool and the gold accents. Hmm... Sorry, I'm rambling.
a beautiful 86 z28 5 speed car thats for sale right down the street from me .. miles not in add but got to be low at 13,000 asking price
This one is cool. I've got a friend looking for a 5 speed, non-IROC, Z28 hardtop like this. If you don't mind sending me the link for this one, I'll forward it to him.

Drew, both of my first cars had the high back vinyl seats, my 82 and 83. Granted, the '83 was about as base as it came for a Z28, but the '82 was fully loaded, even with the full rear carpet and the trunk well panel (D27). It had TTops, cassette, CFI, posi, power everything, but had vinyl seats. I think in the early 80s, many cars came with vinyl seats and people probably thought they were easier to clean and fabric would soil too easily. I remember my parents 1977 Pontiac Grand Safari wagon had vinyl seats, as did the 1978 Toyota Celica GT.
Also, the '87 Z28 vert listed for $12k above has been for sale for many years. Willie and I have both spoken with the owner. Great guy, but I'm not sure I understand why his car hasn't sold.

Ray - I've asked this in the past but will throw it out there again.....are you certain all these cars are still for sale??
An amazing number of car ads are left as active listings LONG after the cars have sold - my guess is 50% of the ads out there are old and expired or the cars have sold (long ago)

have no idea but most of the camaro adds are pretty new and ive contacted about 5 of them and got 5 responses back .. im not going to buy them all so it doesnt really matter to me if there for sale or not ..
facebook marketplace .. i like it better than craigslist and the cars i posted are recent post on there .. a couple are from craigslist that i posted and i dont know how old they are , but marketplace i check everyday and know which ones are new
it takes only a few seconds to message the seller and they usually get right back to you
that car is like 2 minutes from my shop and ive seen it before , its a nice car .. he said if he changes his mind he will get a hold of me before he puts it back up for sale ..
"But how rare is my 86 Iroc? it's a 305 TPI auto, red with Yosemite Sam mudflaps."
This thread illustrates what I've been saying for a few years... There are more NICE thirdgens out there, than a person could ever count. It's really not cost effective to restore.

It's amazing how many were bought and preserved and used sparingly and still around.

It's not too terribly shocking when you consider that the 80's were when the 50's and 60's cars started to shoot up in collector values. It was before Ebay and the like made finding anything easy. The economy was booming in the 80's and 90's, people had jobs and money to spend on toys. Taking into account that these were never good winter cars, it's not too hard to see how careful owners would keep them parked in storage half the year, once something goes in storage it often doesn't come out for years. I'd say we're still only seeing a small fraction of the cars that have been preserved.

the guy just messaged me and said his wife is pushing him to sell it .. he said he has documentations on the car since new ..
I’m sorry but I think the seller is dreaming if he thinks he is going to get $16k for a 93k mile IROC. There are lower mile examples available for less $$....
