82 Trans Am with no bulge hood?
Did any 1982 TA's ever come from the factory without the bulge hood? I've never heard this before and think it's probably a cheesy sales pitch...

Yeah, I've heard that rumor before. Seriously, not sarcastically. Seems there was a problem along the way and to get cars built, some were made with the flat hood. It wouldn't be the first time that 'standard' equipment wasn't available for whatever reason and GM issued a credit on the window sticker for the missing part.
Another common example that comes to mind is the PBR rear disc shortage of 1991. By the book all 91 L98/LB9 5spd cars are supposed to have 4whl discs, but they ran out and a bunch were built with drums instead and a credit on the window sticker.

Re: 82 Trans Am with no bulge hood?
BTW the car in the auction IS a Trans Am. 5th digit of the VIN in 82 was a W for Trans Am. X was the S/E which could look a lot like a Trans Am in the early years. S would be a normal Firebird.
I'd say someone should buy it and save it from being KITT cloned, but from the pics of the rust, and that it was rust proofed (plugs in the door jambs) I wouldn't touch that car if it were free. If it were a house, it's what we'd call "termites holding hands".

A friend of mine has a '82 Trans Am that originally had the flat hood and 14-inch wheels.
He added the hood and 15-inch wheels...
