Asked them to send me a video of it running. Still waiting. I could be very interested in this car if the dealer helps me.
Strippo though. No AC or power anything.

Those decals are not available anywhere, not even from Phoenix, which makes me feel it's original paint. Has a clean Carfax.
I'd bet it really lights up those 215 tires! Or did they switch to 235s on the '87s?

LOL, this car will give you a better return than the stock market, it won't go down in value, so what is the downside?. You can enjoy it a heck of a lot more also.....

That's probably the high temp silicone based hose, rather than the garden hose it looks like.
Funny I was just looking at this one on Craigslist last night, but it's an automatic.

That’s almost like the first Thirdgen I wanted to buy except flame red with silver gfx..
was T-Top though, but a stick..
Looks good and much cheaper than an IROC would be..
I like those 85-87 Z28s too..

Ive been kicking around the idea of selling the Z06 and picking up another Third Gen. There are some nice ones out there still.

TPI emblem is in the wrong spot..
Top door trim is cracked
looks pretty good though.. would have liked to see if it gets the puff of blue smoke on cold start but that’s not a deal breaker anyhow..
The price is pretty right..

not a bad car, 5 speed is bonus. has the typical plastic door trim crack for 87. I think there was some sort of material defect in the door trim plastic they used building the 87s because i find so many of them cracked even on perfect examples from that year. But there not hard to change out with a good used one. Have they sent a picture of the rpo codes? Think its a standard 3.08 with drum car?

I was actually sitting at a McDonalds back in probably 1995 and a guy pulled up next to me in a 70s Buick Electra and opened the trunk and pulled out these long boxes.. I was watching the guy in my side mirror and he came over and knocked on the window.. I was totally freaked out but he asked if he could see my door trim.. he saw the cracks and said he had brand new ones for an IROC he had but had sold the car and said my car looked really nice and he’d want them to go to someone who’d appreciate them. He didn’t want money.. they were brand new in the GM boxes..
so weird..
People still offer me free parts and I turn them down if I don’t need them, but I’ll start taking stuff and offering to ship them to people here.. Pay it forward on Thirdgens right?
Anyhoo.. yes, the video showed more flaws, but the car will clean up good I think.. Some detailing effort and replacement sills would do wonders..

Meh... It's an 87. AIR tubes all up in your shizz. Bronze Age V-belts, might as well have a Pterodactyl on a treadmill under there. MAF? LOL That's not an engine management computer, it's a Speak-n-Spell programmed to say "Sputter" and "Weeze".
In all honesty, it took two decades to get my 87 running right. It always had a stumble and a flat spot. Definitely prefer the later cars for all their advantages.

When I bought my car, with 6k miles on it, the top door panels were cracked by the side view mirror. Obviously they've been replaced!!!

Re: 1987 Z28 TPI, 5 speed. I really like this car!
Scott,
did you replace them with NOS parts or aftermarket ones? Have they held up so far?
The reason I ask is that when I bought my 1987 with 3k miles on it, the door panels had those cracks too, so I'm getting ready to replace them.
Regards, John

It’s a nice car, but with no options or even A/C it’s going to be a hard resale. Only an enthusiast or a kid would be a potential buyer.

Re: 1987 Z28 TPI, 5 speed. I really like this car!
I think they were NOS. I'd have to check the receipt and see if they were from a dealer or Classic Industries. I don't know who was selling parts for third gens in 2000, so I'm pretty sure I got them at the dealer. They've held up just fine for the past 18 years.

FWIW I replaced my 87 IROC sills with 26k miles with GM OEM replacement ones and when the car was totaled with over 100k miles 8-9 years later they hadn’t cracked again..
I don’t know if GM fixed the problem after 87, but my 88 looks to have the original sills and they look perfect..

Re: 1987 Z28 TPI, 5 speed. I really like this car!
Thanks, the responses from Scott and 88IROCvertZ are encouraging.
I did manage to get some genuine GM replacements for these door trim panels, so it is good to hear that the replacements are holding up.
Reading the responses above, it does indeed seem that there was a bad batch of parts for 1987. My own experience is consistent
with that. I drove my first car (1982 Berlinetta) until the odometer hit 227,000 miles, and those door trim pieces lasted just fine -- even after
15 years of winter driving in the Northeast. Yet my 1987 garage queen had the problem with less than 3,000 miles.

My 87 Iroc got the trim pieces off my 83 Camaro. They're still going strong 20 years later. My beater 84 didn't have any cracks, 3 86s without cracks. an 89 without cracks, 4 91s without cracks. Not sure why 87 door panels were such crap, but it seems isolated to that one year. It's far too common to be a coincidence.

On the other hand, weren't the arm rests on the 1987 (and earlier) cars superior to those of later cars? The discussion might turn out to be very long if we have to compare the years part by part

True! The 88-92 armrests had that popping issue.

Wasn't it Fisher that made the door panel trim for these cars? Anyway my dad bought a 85 T/A new he only had it for 2 years without a problem on the door sills. Traded that car in on a 87 GTA and he shut door one day leaving work in 88 or 89 i believe and it cracked. He got replacements over the parts counter from a GM dealer and kept the car til 97 without problems on the GM replacements. My mom bought an 86 T/A new as well she didn't have this issue, she traded the 86 in early 90 for an iroc and never had a problem with the sills. I'm just gonna guess and say something maybe in the nylon plastic was defective during the 87 builds? Just my opinion. My 88 camaro never had cracks in the sills. Neither my 89,90,91 cars had the issue.

It's odd that is lacks so many common convenience options, but it did get the upgraded cloth interior. I really like it, but I also have a soft spot for the '85-'87 Z28's.
Also, I've never had an '87 but have had about every other year. Several of them have had cracked door panel tops. Usually just minor cracks, but one or two have been completely broken. And a couple have been warped, with a pretty good bow in them.

I really like this car but down south A/C is a must if you want to enjoy a car from May-October. This thing would be a lot of fun with 3.73 gears and Dynodon headers added to it.

This car is a bit risky in that if I had it and got tired of it, would I easily be able to move it off to a new owner? AC was for wussies in 1987, not the case 31 years later.
With that said....
