The Conteur looks pretty much like a standard seat, though it has adjustments for seatback wings, lumbar, seat wings, and thigh support. Mine also sits on a six-way electric track, so total adjustments are numerous.

Mine also sits on a six-way electric track, so total adjustments are numerous. The Lear Siegler seat, I believe, had two versions, one in '82 and another '83-85. How rare? I see them from time to time in yards for what that's worth.

JamesC,
I too have the 6 way with the Lumbar support, I was wondering, did you retro fit it yourself like I did, or did it come from the factory that way...

John,

I put the L/S Conteur on the stock 6-way in my car; however, I have seen the seat come stock on a six-way.

I have been looking high and low for an '86 Lear Siegler contour seat for years, without any luck. Anyone have one or know of one for sale? Color and condition of the cloth wouldn't matter, or even the padding as long as the seat frame and mechanicals themselves are in good shape and not rusty. As far as I'm aware '86 was the only year with the electric switches on the passenger side bottom cushion of the seat instead of the mechanical adjusters. It looks similar to the Corvette adjustable seat.

Blue,

I removed the switches from the driver's seat of what I believe was an 83 or 84 Camaro--as a matter of fact, it might even have been an 82 (I seem to recall that the seat was shaped a tad differently). The last I knew the seat was still in the yard, but I don't recall its mechanical condition. According the the Camaro White Book, the L/S seat did exist in 86; however, only 184 of them sold.

Okfoz,

Perhaps, I read your question incorrectly. The lumbar was stock in my seat.

JamesC,

I think you got it right...we might not be talking about the same seat though, I am referring to the "ultima" seat found in all GTA's articualting seats that were introduced in 1987... are we on the same page?

Its an easy mixup but my mistake if it is...

The conteur seats are different from the "ultima" or GTA seats... They're just a typical thirdgen seat but with an adjustable thigh support and manual adjust ***** on the sides of the seats. These are also known as the Lear Sieglar seats.

thanks Drew,
Reading back thru the posts I realized that I made an err, insofar as I assumed he was talking about 87+. Since the "ultima" seats appeared in 87, and they were talking about earlier, I just mis-understood.

I had to retro-fit the 6-way power track with my Lumbar support seat, I made a little bracket to hold onto the 6 way power switch. Fortunately I live in GM country, and getting the ABS plastic from a local plastics place with the correct GM interior plastic pattern.

I am not trying to get off topic...sorry

I have the L-S Conteur seats and CAMARO CAMARO interior in mine. Only the driver's seat has the adjustments. Is that original or are they both supposed to be adjustable?

Original. Old Yeller, this is off post, but I'd enjoy hearing your opinion about 3.73s. RPM, accerlation, gas mileage, etc., especially if you've swapped out another gear (I currently have 3.23s, but I'm serious considering 3.42s/3.73s).

JamesC, I tried emailing you privately to the address you have on this board and it bounced. Anyway, I don't have any gas milage figures on the IROC with 3.73 gears, but this '85 is a bit better than my '83 was with the same gears. The '83 was an LG4 5-speed that originally came with those gears. This '85 IROC originally started life as an LG4 automatic with 3.23 gears but a previous owner
converted it to a T-5 with 3.73 gears and an L69 motor. He also added other goodies, like the Conteur seats, overhead console, the console clock and GTA wheels. Here's a picture http://www.jimd.com/m01/autox/pages/19-Scan570.htm As far as I'm concerned, 3.73 is the right gear for a T-5. The '85 has a taller 5th gear and gets
slightly better gas milage. For an automatic I think 3.42 are the best performance gears. I run 14.9 @ 94 on a good day.

I've got em too. Mine are red and have CAMARO written all down the seat backs and bottom. The rear seat is the same pattern. Only the driver's seat has the **** adjustments.

Anyone know where I could get mine re-covered? The driver's seat is kinda worn out.

I had the left side pieces of the driver's seat recovered by a local auto upholstery shop. The exact matrial was still available, but very pricey. I chose another GM velour material the exact same color. The CAMARO CAMARO material was also available.

I'm surprised that someone has a bit of stock. When I tried to locate enough material for my car about two summers ago, I was told that it was no longer available.

I don't recall whether it was the plain color material or the logo material, but one of them was $300 (Canadian) a yard. Obviously only of interest to a collector.

To give all of you a visual on what the Dual Contour Seats look like.......

This is a picture of my interior from my 1984 Firebird S/E. They are vinyl trimed with cloth backing. They also have a cloth pocket on the back. The lower thigh bolsters are adjustable as well as the upper bolsters that hug your back. The front of the seat has an adjustable pad that moves forward and backward to support your legs. Pretty interesting set up if you ask me.

The ultima seats are very different in look but similar in design and use.

If your wondering about my firebird by any chance it is a 1984 S/E with a 2.8L H.O. V6 and a 5 speed. It also has deluxe interior and leather trimed wheel, shifter, and brake handle. Split fold seats are in the back and there is a vinyl security cover in the back. No spoiler and 14" turbo cast rims (not the hubcap kind).

I purchased this car for $500 in september and plan on restoring it with new mechanicals and a fresh coat of paint. I have it running now but it need a new radiator.
