Thanks, I have the hood off so I figured that I'd make the look original. PO had the car done at Maaco and there is overspray everywhere.
Sometimes if you remove the screen from the plastic, you can see the original finish under the 'louver' slats. A lot of the black trim likes to fade to bare metal, like the door lock caps, lug nut covers, wiper arms, hatch trim, etc.

I want to think that they were somehow chemically painted with some sort of oxidation from the factory... It really is not a paint, as it wears off easily... All of the factory Formula and Trans Am hood scoop block offs and even the screens I have seen do the same thing, the coating wears off... Drew is correct, just paint them black, usually a flat black IIRC...
