History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I just bought a 1986 Iroc-Z and noticed it does not have the glass mounted 3rd brake light BUT a light mounted in the rear spoiler.
The rear glass has the holes where you could mount a brake light but has "plugs" in them ,, looks like from the factory.
Did Chevrolet perhaps make the 1986 model with the 3rd light in the spoiler (later in the year model) or was the rear hatch glass replaced...??
I have the original DE1 louver that came with the car and it is for a NON 3rd light on the glass model.... Hmmmmm
Thank you for any information you may have
Yes, I just bought her so she is dusty... lol
Please post RPO code. I am guessing someone added the louver. I am also guessing someone replaced the rear hatch gas shocks and used aftermarket ones that where to heavy flex the hatch glass and it broke. So they replaced it with newer deck lid.
Someone may have replaced the glass...I have a 89 Red Iroc and it is like yours on the rear deck...also had 86 that wished I had back had two Irocs but wife had to have her car in the garage...
With the holes still in the glass, I'm gonna say that someone didn't like the high mounted third brake light, removed it, and bought a newer rear spoiler. And...plugged the holes in the glass.
If you have factory louvers, it doesn't mean they they are the ones that came with your car. They could have bought newer ones, too.

Thank everyone for their answers,,,
I looked closer at the tail hatch and glass....
The spoiler brake light cover (red) has what I think is a date of 1987 on the plastic...
This is how we use to check cars back in the old days by looking at the tail light, side marker cover for a date stamped in it.....
Now to find the answer to one more question,,, I'll post it in the proper category...
Have a great week to everyone and thank you again...
