91 z28 a 5.7??
This may seem like a dumb question to most people, but how can you tell for sure that the engine is a 5.7 and not a 5.0 in a 91 z28? How could i tell by looking at the vin number also?
What are some flaws to look for when purchasing one of these cars?
Are these the normal options that i should expect to see that came with these cars?: engine oil cooler, 4-wheel disc brakes, dual cats, 3 inch exhaust? what else?

Is the 91 z28 5.7 called the L98 motor? If not what is it called?
I thought the dual cat versions did y into a 3" pipe, but i could be wrong at least that's what it says here

GM rated the dual cat version at 10 more HP than the single cat versions. Putting a good aftermarket system w/ mandrel bent pipes and a free flowing muffler will still give you better power though on a car with dual cats.

Of course the VIN won't tell you anything if the motor's been swapped. When checking by the VIN, match the number on the block to the last 6 digits of the VIN to make sure it's the original motor. Then you know the VIN method is accurate. If there's not a match, then you have to check by casting numbers to find out what it really is.

Bald tires, there's an easy $650 right from the get go. Dents, dings, scratches, etc. Body work isn't easily done, and seldom turns out as nice as the car was originally. Rusted out exhausts. This is somethign to always look for, a good catback will run close to $300. They usually rust out where there's a 90* bend in the pipe. Rust, don't buy a rusty thirdgen.

Those are the big visible options, the exhaust is actually 2.75, but its not like 1/8" on each side is really that visible or important. The rear discs should have been included on every 91 L98 but some don't have them. Personally I wouldn't settle for drums on an L98 when there are plenty of disc cars out there.

what kind of condition is this car in?
how much are you paying?
a nice condition 91 z28 with the l98 option isn't cheap.......there should be no mistaking it's a 350.
besides the obvious ensignia on the rear and the vin code you should have a good idea.
because the 350 option pulls more money and the fact that the 305 looks similar many people will try to fool those who don't know.
biggest flaws to look for are like any other 3rdgen or used car; this will depend on the price your paying of course. but, you should have some idea of what your willing to settle for.......
those options that you listed, is that what's on the car?
again, not all of these cars came with discs........it's not the end of the world, but i wouldn't buy one with out the disc setup.
generally, the 350 is the model to get; without knowing what all the car has it's hard to say what is all involved. one things for sure, there is a definate power difference in the 305 and 350 versions..........drive a stock 305 and you'll know.

I checked it out today. 4-wheel discs. The interior is in great shape with black leather. One very small tear in the drivers seat but other than that, no wear is noticible (wrinkles and such) The owner couldn't be their, i will drive the car when he's their next weekend. The paint is 2 years old with 2 minor chips in the ground effects and one bubble in the paint by the bowtie symbol. The bubble i think is minor too since it can't be rust because the front end is not steel as in any third gen. Its a definet 350 though. He has an aftermarket stereo, sfc's, hypertech chip (which im not really in favor for but oh well), a tricked out alarm system, flowmaster w/tips, and a b&m shift kit. I'm thinkin about offering $7500 with its 81,000 miles.
I was also wondering if the steering is more responsive than my 92 rs, remember i haven't driven it.

Engine: 350
Transmission: 700R4
I got my 91 Z 5.7 last Aug. with 73K miles on it and payed $6K so you may be able to get the price down a little bit. Of course, mine was completely stock, with rear drums, so I'm sure that helped the price. I know it's a tiny thing, but open the center console and look at it cause mine was broken into 5 different pieces. On mine the bushings were dry rotted and it caused the rear sway bar to chatter some. Also, one of my power windows didn't roll down. The third brake light on my car didn't work either because the plastic piece that holds the bulb was broken, and GM is proud of those. Not that any of these things should keep you from getting the car, it's just some things that came to mind that you might want to check and you'd have to spend money on later.
