SPID
Hey what was the code for a 1990 formula ? I know the gta is Y84. I think there is a guy passing off a Formula as a T/A. Also did the 1990 Formula have the opition of the T/A ground effects?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: SPID
Formula is W66 - T/A is WS4 - GTA is Y84 - there is no option for ground effects on a Formula

I think thats a Firebird with RPO W68 - available 1989 - 1992.
In 89 & 90 it was with a V-6 only - in 91 & 92 the L03 V-8 was available
I'd bet money that's what it is - what year are they saying it is an 89 or 90 ??
BTW, records indicate they made only ONE black 1990 W68 V-6 manual trans
This may be the ONLY Black 1990 Firebird W68 (Sport apperance pkg) with a 5 speed that was produced in 1990 !!
A cool find if you can live with the V-6

Re: SPID
Looks like a parts car, in reverse.
Which is to say, somebody had [whatever] parts, and stuck em onto [whatever] body.
Then at that point, looking at "SPIDs" on that body's tag is as USELESS as thinking that block stamping "codes" are gonna tell how much horsepucker some random "rebuilt" motor makes.
I think it's just some ... stuff ... somebody bolted together and squirted a coat of paint onto. aka lipstick on a pig.

Post or PM the VIN and I will check on the RPO codes.

Re: SPID
Well as of now he has not responded to my request for more pictures and information. He stated to me that the "T/A's did not have the vents behind the front wheels the GTA's had them". So I don't realy think he knows his 3rd gens. He lives only 65 miles from me but I don't want to just show up at his place. It is a 5.0 TPI with 5 Speed not sure it it left the factory that way or not.

IMO, maybe a GTA with a formula
hood and wheels....just a guess based
on the engine/trans as the W68 option would
have had the V-6
I'd really like to see the spid tag for this car !!
Re: SPID
but IMO, with a 5.0 5 speed its not a code W68 and must be either a modified GTA or Formula
Your thoughts?
Re: SPID
The W68 was Pontiac's marketing of giving customers the Trans Am look, on a base Firebird, without the T/A price.

Re: SPID
No gfx on W66 Formulas, ever,
W68 was a Base Firebird option.
It appears to be a Formula that someone installed the Ground effects and bumpers from a Trans Am/GTA
VIN will tell all
1G2FS = Firebird or Formula
1G2FW = Trans Am or GTA
1G5FW = TTA
The 8th digit should be an F with a Manual 5.0 TPI.

Yes, we are in need of a VIN

Edit, I think I understand what you mean. You didn't mean W68 was the base Firebird RPO but, instead, W68 was an option on the base Firebird.

Re: SPID
Correct the W68 was a Base Firebird option only...
1990-1992: for some reason Y81 was the RPO for a BASE 90-92 Firebird without Ground effects, and W68 was the Base Firebird with Ground effects. Why they had 2 RPOs is beyond me because you could only get one or the other.
As noted in the Bulletin V8 L03 was NA with W68 for 89, and for 90, but it was available in 91-92.
Rabbit hole: At the same time Y83 was used from 90-92 to denote the (non GTA) Trans Ams, where it was not used on earlier cars, only Y84 was used to denote the GTA from 87-89.
