1987 Canadian 350 / T-Top Firebirds – What We Know So Far

For 1987, the only way to get a 350 with T-tops on a Trans Am or GTA was through Canadian-market cars.

Thanks to 98_1LE, I was able to break down some interesting details on these Canadian 350 cars. That said, I’m still not confident that every 1987 Base Firebird, Trans Am, and GTA has been accounted for. However, all 1987 Formula cars are fully accounted for.

Pontiac Production Totals vs. Documented Data

Here’s what Pontiac reported compared to what I currently have documented:
  • Base Firebird: 42,558 total (missing 28)
  • Formula: 13,164 (complete)
  • Trans Am: 21,788 (missing 216)
  • GTA: 11,102 (missing 113)

Notable Discoveries

  • No B2L RPO on Canadian 350 cars "L98" only.
  • DD9 mirrors were GTA-exclusive
No non-GTA models received DD9 power mirrors.

Canadian L98 + CC1 + DD9 Breakdown

(Canadian-market cars only)
  • White (40U): 4
  • Black (41U): 7
  • Brown (58U): 1
  • Red Metallic (74U): 7
  • Red (81U): 8
  • Gray (87U): 4
Total: 31 cars

Other Tidbits

Total GTA + 350 + CC1 (All Markets)

  • 40U White: 221
  • 41U Black: 243
  • 58U Brown: 21
  • 74U Red Metallic: 220
  • 81U Red: 236
  • 87U Gray: 72
Total: 1,013 cars

Trans Am (Non-GTA) – 350 + CC1

  • 13U Silver: 0
  • 23U Blue: 3
  • 28U Dark Blue: 3
  • 41U Black: 4
  • 74U Red Metallic: 1
  • 81U Red: 5
Total: 16 cars
Still digging, but this is where the data stands right now. Any additional VINs or documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Nice work, you all.

I used to know a fellow who had an '87 Canadian FRM GTA with L98, CC1, and DD9. Used to see him in Dayton every year when I was going up there.

I remember seeing the car. It is amazing how many 350-T-top were made for 1987. It is not shocking how few DD9 350 T-top cars tho. Unfortunately I am missing some cars, not sure if they were exported, US, Canadian, I just do not know.

I have a photo of it somewhere... guy's name was Brad Duff. When I run onto it, I'll send it along.

John, the quality isn't great but this is a shot from the 2000 T/A Nats of Brad's car.

I think there’s a NOS DD9 mirror on eBay right now. Pretty cheap too.
It’s item #406464929071.

Do you mean because they were ugly as sin and should not have been offered in the first place?

They are really neat for the rarity of it. But gall dang are they ugly.
