Nearly 2 years ago, my wife and I stripped everything we could possibly remove from an '86 IROCZ that was going to the crusher. The car had been hit so hard in the rear that the floor and doors were buckled. The current owner was only interested in the drive train. We were welcome to the rest. So we only had the weekend to get this done as the car was going away on Monday. As a result we were working very fast. When we arrived home we just quickly dumped everything into a pile in the cellar.

Now here is the interesting thing about this. Last night I went to retrieve something from this pile for fellow 3rdgen member. That is when I noticed that the dash instrument cluster had a 160 MPH speedometer. I have never seen or even heard of such a thing?

Can anyone shed any light on this. I thought the only one you could get was 145 MPH?

 

Try doing a search, this has come up before. It was a service part, or something to that effect.

 

The one I have certainly looks original. 160 MPH on one side with KPH on the other side. One needle does both.

Kinda weird.

A friend of mines IROC has the MPH/KPH with the double sided needle too. The car hasnt moved in years though, so I cant remember what the speed was. Sure was kinda ugly if ya ask me!
