vin decoder didn't work

vin decoder didn't work

Hi. I've got a vin for an 86 firebird. I put it in the decoder and it came up with 86, trans am special edition, yada yada, but didn't tell what engine it has. Eigth digit is 5. thanks for any help.

Well, they must have misread the vin then, cause it has a v8 and it's original.

You misread the vin... but since neither digit 7 or 9 can have 5 as an option, you probably got the digit right... Here are possible engine codes.

H LG4
7 LU5
E L03
G L69
F LB9
8 L98
2 LQ9
1 LC1
S LB8
T LH0
